Every man builds his house in the path of a storm. No matter who that man is, no matter what kind of house he builds, no matter where he builds it. The question is not, “Will storms come in my life?” but, “Will the house prove to be storm worthy?” The storm may not have hit yet, but just hang on it will. You will never build on any location where you will be exempt from storms.

The shocking thing is that a great many people who believe their houses will stand the storm, discover they don't. That is the tragedy of life. This is the tragedy Jesus is focusing on. Most people think their lives will stand but they don't. You know it is one thing to be deceived by somebody else, but it's another thing to be deceived by yourself. The Bible has a great deal to say about self-deception. That is the worst kind. In this passage, Jesus is giving us a picture of a man who is self-deceived.

Jesus describes two houses: one falls, and one stands. There's something different about these houses even though they look the same. Most people think their house will stand. They believe that it's weatherproof. Jesus said many will not, many are self-deceived. Your house is built in the pathway of a storm. When it comes will it be able to stand. Let me share three things with you about this passage.

I. The Storm that Every Man Faces

1. Two men built a house. Notice, the same storm came to the same two houses. One fell. One stood.

2. The house that fell did not fall because the storm was greater and more intense. Jesus describes both storms exactly the same, verse 25-27.

3. As we live our lives, there is going to be various storms, but Jesus is talking about a particular storm that every man is headed for.

4. It is the storm that Jesus describes in verses 21-23, he is talking about the storm of judgment.

5. Talking about the final judgement when all men must stand before the great judge, John 5:22-23. that day of judgment is the storm that is coming to every life.

6. It is a severe storm and not to be taken lightly. There are many jokes about the judgment day. Philippians 2:9-11

7. Deal with the issues of today. This is the main issue of your life.

a. Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 6:14-17

b. Revelation 20:11-15

8. He's also a separating judgment, verse 23. Men will depart into hell, how terrible.

a. Mark 9:43-48; Matthew 13:41-43

b. Matthew 25:41, 46

9. The worst thing about this judgment is that it is going to be a surprising judgment, in verses 21-22. many will say:

a. prophesied, a preacher, a witness.

b. Cast out devils. You'd think that fella was saved.

c. Wonderful works; Miracles.

d. A surprise, I never knew you.

10. Deceived! I find that the majority of people are deceived about their relationship to God. Notice what they had:

a. they had right doctrine; Called him Lord.

b. They had the right desire; wanted to go to heaven.

c. They had the right deed; yet last!

11. The greatest tragedy in America today is religion. Everybody is religious. It is so popular everyone has some affiliation to an organization.

12. Have you ever had a personal relationship with Jesus? Do you know him? Verse 23

13. Jesus is telling us we can have all these things and still miss heaven.

14. Luke 6:48, most people only have a surface religion. That house will fall and great will be the fall of it.

II. The Shelter That Every Man Builds

1. Jesus describes a man's life as a house. It is a shelter against the storm.

2. Every man has a shelter against the storm of judgment. Some pleas, he makes to his conscience to get him by.

3. When men stand before God, they show their shelter. these men shelter was what they had done. What they had believed.

4. If God called you to give account and judgment today, what would be your shelter from the storm of God's wrath? What would you hide under?

5. Jesus says there's only one house that will stand. Only one plea that you can make. Let's focus!

III. The Site Every Man Builds Upon

1. One man digs deep and builds upon a rock. One man dig shallow and builds upon the sand. Let's look at the site of the wise man.

2. Jesus is not describing one man who did here and another man who never came to church, both heard. Matthew 7:24-26, Luke 6:47

3. he's not talking about pagans and heathens. He's talking about people who slept in today. He's talking about us who are here and who are listening to the word.
