BREAKING THE STRONGHOLD OF DESTINY BLOCKERS
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Acts 13:6-12
"And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus: Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord." (Acts 13:6-12)

INTRODUCTION
Every child of God has a divine destiny, but there are forces that seek to hinder the fulfilment of that destiny. These forces, known as destiny blockers, manifest in various ways, including human opposition, demonic manipulations, and unfavourable circumstances.
In Acts 13:6-12, Paul and Barnabas encountered Elymas the sorcerer, who tried to prevent the proconsul Sergius Paulus from receiving the gospel. This incident reveals that destiny blockers are real, but they can be overcome through the power of God.
Breaking free from destiny blockers requires discernment, spiritual authority, and persistence in prayer. As we examine the different types of destiny blockers and how to overcome them, may the Lord empower us to break every limitation on our journey to destiny fulfilment.
1. UNDERSTANDING DESTINY BLOCKERS
Destiny blockers are forces or individuals that attempt to hinder God’s plan for our lives.
a) Satanic Oppositions – The devil constantly fights against the fulfilment of divine purposes (1 Thessalonians 2:18).
b) Wicked Human Agents – Elymas the sorcerer tried to stop Sergius Paulus from believing (Acts 13:8).
c) Household Enemies – Joseph’s brothers sought to destroy his destiny out of envy (Genesis 37:18-20).
d) Demonic Delays – The prince of Persia delayed Daniel’s prayer for 21 days (Daniel 10:12-13).
e) Biblical Example: Sanballat and Tobiah Opposed Nehemiah – They tried to frustrate the rebuilding of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 4:1-3).
2. RECOGNISING THE STRATEGIES OF DESTINY BLOCKERS
Destiny blockers use different strategies to hinder progress.
a) Discouragement and Fear – Goliath intimidated Israel for 40 days until David arose (1 Samuel 17:10-11).
b) Deception and Manipulation – The Gibeonites deceived Israel into making a covenant (Joshua 9:3-15).
c) Accusation and False Allegations – Satan accused Joshua the high priest before the Lord (Zechariah 3:1-3).
d) Distraction and Diversion – Delilah distracted Samson from his divine assignment (Judges 16:4-6).
e) Biblical Example: Balaam’s Curse Against Israel – The enemy sought to hinder Israel’s progress through enchantments (Numbers 22:5-6).
3. KEYS TO BREAKING DESTINY BLOCKERS
Overcoming destiny blockers requires spiritual weapons and divine strategies.
a) Fervent Prayer and Fasting – Jesus declared that some battles can only be won through prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21).
b) Engaging the Word of God – The Word is a sword that destroys every hindrance (Hebrews 4:12).
c) The Power of the Holy Spirit – Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, silenced Elymas the sorcerer (Acts 13:9-11).
d) Boldness and Authority in Christ – We must confront and rebuke every opposition (Luke 10:19).
e) Biblical Example: Jehoshaphat’s Victory Through Praise – Praise brought confusion into the enemy’s camp (2 Chronicles 20:22-23).
4. DIVINE CONNECTIONS AND DESTINY HELPERS
God sends helpers to counter destiny blockers.
a) God Raises Destiny Helpers at the Right Time – Mordecai helped Esther to step into her destiny (Esther 4:13-14).
b) Divine Connections Speed Up Destiny Fulfilment – Pharaoh’s servant remembered Joseph at the appointed time (Genesis 41:9-14).
c) Angelic Assistance in Times of Crisis – Peter was rescued by an angel from Herod’s prison (Acts 12:7-10).
d) God Uses Unlikely People to Help – The Samaritan helped the wounded man when others ignored him (Luke 10:33-35).
e) Biblical Example: Jonathan Helped David Escape Saul – He provided divine cover for David’s destiny (1 Samuel 20:12-17).
5. LIVING IN PERPETUAL VICTORY OVER DESTINY BLOCKERS
Victory over destiny blockers must be maintained.
a) Constantly Wear the Whole Armour of God – Spiritual battles require spiritual weapons (Ephesians 6:11-18).
b) Live a Life of Holiness and Righteousness – Sin can open doors for destiny blockers (Isaiah 59:1-2).
