The Origin Of Fear

Last week we saw that fear put pressure on us to cave in and retreat.

We saw how that before the sound barrier was broken by Chuck Yeager, at least two other pilots had attempted and ended up giving their lives. Why?

Because during that time, right before you hit the barrier, there was violent shaking of the plane and the pilots made fatal mistakes – they tried to slow down and in so, lost control and the planes crashed.

When Yeager went up. The same thing happened. The plane shook violently as he approached that transition point. And while his first instinct was to let up, slow down, turn around and give up, he said that he instead decided to push harder, go faster and continue full steam ahead.

Then, it happened. The famous sonic boom that was heard by those on the ground. He had done it. He had broken the sound barrier. And you know what he said he felt immediately after that? Smooth sailing.

This is how fear attacks us. It gets rough, things start shaking and we can get paralyzed and walk away or we can push through.

We saw that we need to break the fear barrier's in our lives.

In the book Make Fear Bow by Gary Whetstone He gives the definition of fear as.

F- False

E- Evidence

A- Appearing

R- Real

Rick Renner, "Living in the Combat Zone"

"There is absolutely no room in your life for a spirit of fear, if you are going to be used by God to minister effectively to people. People will disappoint you at times. But if you allow that disappointment to get in your soul, a spirit of fear will try to control you. And if you don’t deal with that fear, hurt and anger will overwhelm you. You’ll be afraid to let anyone get close to you again.

"Often you’re unaware when you begin to erect walls of defense around your mind and emotions, but if they go up, it becomes very difficult to put your trust in people. But when you stop trusting people, your ability to help others is finished. Therefore, ask the Holy Spirit to make you sensitive to this fact so that you don’t subconsciously build walls that block you off from your brothers and sisters in Christ."

What I like to do this week is look at the Origin of Fear and how that effects us.

To truly understand something, we need to know where it came from.

If it came from God then we need to accept it and live with it.

But if it's not from God, but from His enemy, then I don't have to be under it's control.

We need to understand that God gave man ownership of the earth, or we can say that man was made the Governor of the Earth.

Psalms 115:16 (NKJV) The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's;

But the earth He has given to the children of men.

Psalm 115:16 (MSG) The heaven of heavens is for GOD, but he put us in charge of the earth.

We understand that the earth belongs to God, but that He gave rulership or control of it to Adam and Eve.

Psalm 24:1-2 (NKJV) The earth is the LORD'S, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2 For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters.

Psalm 89:11 (NKJV) The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all its fullness, You have founded them.

1 Chronicles 29:11 (NKJV) Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all.

This is why we know that everything is going to work out according to His Word. He still own’s this place.

Now we see in Genesis God doing this, he gave man governorship of the earth:

Genesis 1:26-28 (NKJV) Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
