The Origin Of Fear
Last week we saw that fear put pressure on us to cave in and retreat.
We saw how that before the sound barrier was broken by Chuck Yeager, at least two other pilots had attempted and ended up giving their lives. Why?
Because during that time, right before you hit the barrier, there was violent shaking of the plane and the pilots made fatal mistakes – they tried to slow down and in so, lost control and the planes crashed.
When Yeager went up. The same thing happened. The plane shook violently as he approached that transition point. And while his first instinct was to let up, slow down, turn around and give up, he said that he instead decided to push harder, go faster and continue full steam ahead.
Then, it happened. The famous sonic boom that was heard by those on the ground. He had done it. He had broken the sound barrier. And you know what he said he felt immediately after that? Smooth sailing.
This is how fear attacks us. It gets rough, things start shaking and we can get paralyzed and walk away or we can push through.
We saw that we need to break the fear barrier's in our lives.
In the book Make Fear Bow by Gary Whetstone He gives the definition of fear as.
F- False
E- Evidence
A- Appearing
R- Real
Rick Renner, "Living in the Combat Zone"
"There is absolutely no room in your life for a spirit of fear, if you are going to be used by God to minister effectively to people. People will disappoint you at times. But if you allow that disappointment to get in your soul, a spirit of fear will try to control you. And if you don’t deal with that fear, hurt and anger will overwhelm you. You’ll be afraid to let anyone get close to you again.
"Often you’re unaware when you begin to erect walls of defense around your mind and emotions, but if they go up, it becomes very difficult to put your trust in people. But when you stop trusting people, your ability to help others is finished. Therefore, ask the Holy Spirit to make you sensitive to this fact so that you don’t subconsciously build walls that block you off from your brothers and sisters in Christ."
What I like to do this week is look at the Origin of Fear and how that effects us.
To truly understand something, we need to know where it came from.
If it came from God then we need to accept it and live with it.
But if it's not from God, but from His enemy, then I don't have to be under it's control.
We need to understand that God gave man ownership of the earth, or we can say that man was made the Governor of the Earth.
Psalms 115:16 (NKJV) The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's;
But the earth He has given to the children of men.
Psalm 115:16 (MSG) The heaven of heavens is for GOD, but he put us in charge of the earth.
We understand that the earth belongs to God, but that He gave rulership or control of it to Adam and Eve.
Psalm 24:1-2 (NKJV) The earth is the LORD'S, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2 For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters.
Psalm 89:11 (NKJV) The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all its fullness, You have founded them.
1 Chronicles 29:11 (NKJV) Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all.
This is why we know that everything is going to work out according to His Word. He still own’s this place.
Now we see in Genesis God doing this, he gave man governorship of the earth:
Genesis 1:26-28 (NKJV) Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Psalms 8:3-9 (NASB) When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; 4 What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him?
5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty!
6 You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen,
And also the beasts of the field,
8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
So we see that God made man the governor, and Ruler of the earth and then man committed HIGH TREASON and gave it to and outlaw.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 (NKJV) But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
Ephesians 2:1-2 (NKJV) And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
Luke 4:6-8 (NKJV) And the devil said to Him, "All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours." 8 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' "
When he did, he open the door to all that this new governor wants to throw on us.
Genesis 3:1-10 (NKJV) Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die. ’”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
Afraid> Heb. 3372> It's a verb that means to fear, to be afraid, dreadful, fearful. Being afraid of something or someone.
All that satan is he has put within man, and fear is a big part of it.
John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 8:44 (NKJV) You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
Today, we can only be free from his power, from this Tyrant by changing Lordship or we can say Citizenship. And we do this by being BORN AGAIN.
Philippians 3:20-21 (NKJV) For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
Romans 8:15-23 (NKJV) For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
If a person is not born again then he is still under his control.
Remember:
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
