Blowing Your Own Whistle

1. “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

In this world that we live in mankind thinks that wisdom comes from their own devices. Mankinds own knowledge and understanding, deceives their eyes and heart. Did mankind create the world; can mankind stop a tornado from coming, an earthquake from happening, or a hurricane from blowing? Can mankind stop something from dying? Can mankind predict the future 100% of the time? Mankind can do none of these, but God can. So it is with wisdom, it can only come from God.

2. "But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."

When you ask God for something you better prepare to be ready to receive an answer. For God always answers our prayers. They may not be when we want them answered, or how we want it answered, but he will answer.

3. "That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;"

Our desires and request that we seek from God must in line with God’s plan. We cannot expect God to answer our prayers if our request is for selfish reasons or ways that hinder the Kingdom.

We sometimes here how people brag on how God answers their prayers, as if to lead us to believe that they our more spiritual than us. We shouldn’t brag on what God is doing for us. It’s not our place to blow our own whistle.

The Big Whistle

The story is told of a man who stopped to talk with a small boy

playing with his toys. "You have a lot of nice toys there, Johnny,"

"Yeth," answered the boy who lisped when he talked, "but I like

thith little engine beth of all."

"That certainly is a fine looking fire engine. Can it whistle?"

"Oh, yeth, it can whithle," said the boy, as he opened the valve

which let the steam into the whistle. The whistle sounded, but the

engine promptly stopped running.

"Why, Johnny, what made the engine stop?" Johnny answered, Thith

engine can’t whithle and run at the same time."

There are some people like that engine. So much of their energy is

spent in ’blowing’ about themselves and their achievements or blowing up in anger to others that they have little energy left with which to witness.
