Summary: In so many ways God blesses us. This message is built around the phrase "Blessed is the Man".
Blessed is the One
Psalm 1
Intro.
Thirteen times in the Bible we find the phrase
“Blessed is the man”.
Each time the word “blessed” means to be happy.
“Man” is used to identify any person, so this would include the women as well.
There is a movement today and many books being written on how to be happy.
Remember the song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.”?
I”m not going to go over all 13 of them as a few of them are repeated.
But let's take a look a a few of them.
I. Psalm 1:1 The one who delights in the Lord.
A. “Delight” Takes please in the Lord.
B. We are to enjoy our relationship with the Lord.
C. The early Christians used to learn about God by repeating questions and answers.
(Catechism)
1. The first question was…
What is the chief end of man?
2. The answer…
Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
D. Those who are born again ought to enjoy their relationship with God.
E. The unsaved should fear his wrath.
John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the
Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
II. The one who has been forgiven. Psalm 32:2
A. The dictionary definition for “impute” is.
“to credit or ascribe (something) to a person”
B. Imputed demonstrated. Romans 4:1-8
1. Abraham believe God and it was COUNTED to him for righteousness - he was saved by faith.
2. Vs. 5 Faith is counted for righteousness. (Given to us)
3. We are saved by faith.
Romans 5:1“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
Jesus.
C. How is this possible? II. Corinthians 5:21
Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him.
1. Our sin was laid on Jesus at the Cross
Is. 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we
have turned every one to his own way; and the
LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
2. He gave us His righteousness.
D. We are blessed by having our sin forgiven by the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross.
Rom. 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
III. The one who endures temptation. James 1:12
A. There is a reward - the crown of life.
B. Temptation is not sin.
C. Temptation is clearly defined Vs. 13-15
1. Temptation does not come from God. Vs. 13
2. It happens we were are draw away of our own lusts. Vs. 14
a. Lust comes from our own natural desires.
1)“I want that” creates theft.
2) “I want more” creates gluttony
3) “I want her/him” creates fornication and adultery
b. Lust can and must be controlled.
3. It happened when we are enticed.
a. “Enticed” being offered something.
b. “Come here, try this”
c. Often from Satan
d. Sometimes from friends.
D. The end result. Vs. 15
1. When lust gets control
2. It leads to sin.
3. Sin, leads to death.
Rom. 6:23a For the wages of sin is death;
E. Temptation can be “endured”.
1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful,
who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a
way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
IV. The one who trusts in the Lord. Psalm 84:12
Psa. 84:12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
A. All through Scripture we are encouraged to trust the Lord.
1. The phrase “Trust in the Lord” is written about 20 times.
2. Especially by David in the Psalms
3. Psa. 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
B. It means to rely completely on Him.
1. In the hard times - lean on Him.
2. In the good times - Lean on Him.
C. Sometimes it’s hard to do.
- Man hanging from cliff.
D. As we grow in the Lord we learn to trust Him more
and more
E. The person is blessed who will trust Him.
Jer. 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
1. Our hope is in the Lord.
2. Not in people
3. Not in stuff
4. Not in self
5. Only in the Lord.
Conclusion
Psa. 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him
Happiness in this life is found in trusting the Lord.
