Psalm 1
(Father’s Day)
Intro.
Today is Father’s Day and certainly we want to bless
and honor off of the fathers in our service today. (Stand)
You will see the phrase “blessed is the man” twelve
times in the Bible.
At least four different Hebrew words are used in the phrase, only one greek word is used. (Aner)
- Two of the words are used for mankind - Men
and women.
- Two are used specifically for Men
- One is for a warrior or courageous man
- The Greek word is for Men only.
I. Blessed is the man who delights in the Word of God.
Psalm 1:1-2
A. He does not follow the advise of the ungodly
B. He does not follow the wold (way of sinners)
C. He does not scoff, or mock God’s Word
D. He is delight is in the Word of God
1. He reads it
2. He studies it
3. He tries to live by it.
4. He find enjoyment in the Word of God.
II. Blessed is the man who trusts the Lord.
Psa. 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Psa. 84:12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
Jer. 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
A. A man of faith
Heb. 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
B. His trust not in idols, ideologies, or man.
C. He believe God and what He says
D. He depends on God…
1. For salvation
2. For guidance and direction. (Prov. 3:5-6)
3. For strength
Psa. 84:5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.
4. For wisdom
5. For provision
Phil. 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
III. Blessed is the man that fears the Lord.
Psa. 112:1 ¶ Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
A. By fears we mean that he reverence, or respects the
Lord.
B. Sometimes it is said that a man is“ a God fearing
man”
1. He reads and obey’s the Word of God
2. He attends church regularly
3. He gives cheerful
4. He is a man of integrity
a. He does what he says he will do.
b. He keeps his word
c. He is respectful
C. He honors the Lord
D. He gives God the Glory.

IV. Blessed is the man that listens to the Lord. Proverbs 8:32-35
Prov. 8:34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. Proverbs 8:32-35
1. He listens to God instruction. Vs. 8:33
2. He listens to God voice.
a. In His Word.
b In His heart (Holy Spirit)
c. In Jesus
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
V. Blessed who knows the Lord.
Psa. 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
Rom. 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
A. Imputed means “regard”
1. Without Christ we are lost because of sin.
2. When we get saved we are forgiven and God does not “regard” our sin.
Heb. 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
3. Our sin is forgiven
B. When we receive Christ as our Savior our sin is forgiven and will no longer be “regarded”.
C. Jesus took our sin from us and took them upon Himself. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
D. We must trust Him, like Abraham.
James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed
unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Conclusion:
I want to be a blessed man
