Beyond The Ledge
Contributed by Joe Rowland on May 2, 2008 (message contributor)
Summary: God showed me in a dream that even when I fill like I am on a ledge and I fill like I’m about ready to fall that Jesus is on that ledge with me. His hand is outstretched to help me no matter what I am going through.

Beyond The Ledge
Psalm 16:1-11
1 Michtam of David.>> Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.
2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;
3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.
4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. {hasten...: or, give gifts to another}
5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
I have entitled this today: Just Beyond the Ledge.
David, this morning, had put his trust in God and he was not going to be moved.
Verse one says: “Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.”
All of the verses of this Psalm refer to the coming Messiah, except the first two verses which refer to David.
Verse two says:
2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;
This could be translated, “you are my Lord, I have no good beyond and apart from you; you are my highest and only good.
David understood that he had no good beyond and apart from God.
The Word tells me “that there is none good, not even one, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Psalm16:4
4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. {hasten...: or, give gifts to another}
Anything other than “Christ and Him crucified” is another God. “Another Jesus”
2 Corinthians 11:4
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. {with him: or, with me}
If it is not in the Word of God, then don’t accept it.
If it is not about the Jesus that the Word talks about, then don’t have anything to do with it.
Psalm 16:5
5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
As a child of God, we have an inheritance, and we have a Godly heritage.
Psalm 16:7
7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
God gave David counsel and He instructed him in the night seasons.
Again, as a child of God, we have an inheritance, and we have a Godly heritage.
Just like David we have to bless the Lord, who hath given us counsel in the night.
God will instruct me in the night seasons.
I’ve entitled this today:
Just beyond the ledge.
As a Christian, have you ever felt like you were on a ledge and you were about to fall?
Have you ever felt that you could not make it through the situation that you were going through?
When we are on the ledge, and it looks like we are going to fall, reach out because just beyond the ledge is Jesus, and He is waiting for you to call to Him so He can help you.
The reason that I preached this today:
The other day I was talking to God and I was telling Him that I could not do this without Him.
I told God that I needed help.
This is what the Lord spoke to me:
Dream 4-28-08
I dreamed that another guy and I were on a ledge of stone. There was snow and ice on this ledge. I was trying to help this guy and myself across the path of stone. I saw a door, a literal door. I grabbed hold of the door so that I would not fall. As I grabbed hold of the door I noticed that the door was being held by ice and stone. The ice broke away from the door and the stone. It looked like I would fall. On the other side of the door was Jesus. He reached out His hand and He helped me across the ledge.
