Even in our moments of confusion and fear, God is present, guiding us and asking for our trust, just as He did with Moses in the wilderness.

Introduction

Good morning, church family!

You know, there are moments in our lives when we feel like we're in a wilderness. We're confused, lost, and maybe even a bit frightened. But that's often when God speaks to us most clearly, guiding us and asking for our trust. Today, we'll be diving into the story of Moses, a man who certainly knew a thing or two about wilderness experiences. The Scripture we'll be exploring is Exodus 3:1-9, where Moses encountered a burning bush and heard God's call.

Thomas Brooks once said, "We trust as we love, and where we love. If we love Christ much, surely we shall trust him much." I believe this quote captures the essence of Moses' encounter and the essence of our own faith journeys as well.

So, let's read the passage:

Now, let's bow our heads in prayer.

Gracious God, thank you for always calling us, guiding us, and asking us to trust you, even in our wilderness moments. As we explore this Scripture today, we ask that you open our hearts and our minds to understand and apply your word in our lives. Help us, O Lord, to gaze upon you with faith, just like Moses did. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Let's get into it, shall we?

God's Call to Moses

In the midst of the wilderness, God called out to Moses from a burning bush. This was not an ordinary call; it was a divine summons, a holy invitation. Moses, a shepherd at the time, was tending his father-in-law's flock when he encountered the extraordinary sight of a bush ablaze, yet not consumed. This was not a random occurrence, but a divine appointment. God used this unusual spectacle to catch Moses' attention, to draw him in, and to prepare him for a life-altering conversation.

It was personal: He called him by name, not once, but twice, expressing a sense of urgency and intimacy. This personal call underscores the fact that God knows us by name. He sees us, He knows us, and He calls us individually. He does not call us as a faceless crowd, but as unique individuals with distinct roles in His divine plan.

It was purposeful: He did not call Moses to merely have a chat or to pass the time. He called Moses with a specific mission in mind - to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. This reminds us that God's call on our lives is not random or without purpose. He has a specific plan and purpose for each of us. He calls us to serve Him in unique ways, using our gifts, talents, and experiences for His glory.

It was transformative: It was a call that would change Moses' life forever. From a shepherd in the wilderness, Moses was called to be a leader and a deliverer. This transformation was not instant or easy. It required faith, obedience, and perseverance. But through it all, God was with Moses, guiding him, equipping him, and empowering him. This assures us that when God calls us, He does not leave us to figure things out on our own. He walks with us, transforms us, and equips us for the task He has called us to.

It was holy: When Moses approached the burning bush, God instructed him to remove his sandals because he was standing on holy ground. This was a call to reverence, a call to recognize the holiness of God and the sacredness of His call. It reminds us that when we respond to God's call, we are not merely embarking on a new task or project. We are stepping into a holy assignment, a sacred mission that requires reverence, humility, and obedience.

God calls each of us today: He calls us by name, with a specific purpose, to be transformed, and to recognize the holiness of His call. His call may come in the midst of our wilderness, in the midst of our ordinary lives. It may come through a burning bush or through a still small voice. But when it comes, may we, like Moses, be ready to respond, "Here I am."

Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about a time when you felt God calling you in a specific way, and how that experience has shaped your faith.
