Topic: Assurance of my Salvation

By Ptr Jack Segismundo

Text:

1 John 5:11-13 (NKJV)

11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Introduction:

Many Christians look for the assurance of their salvation and often times they are seek answers in wrong places .Salvation is a work of God and is solely a work of the Almighty. Assurance of salvation is possible only if salvation is a work of God alone. If it depends upon man’s ability, assurance of salvation would require the works that are necessary to meet God’s approval for righteousness.

Ephesians 2:8,9

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast”.

Let us looks at some of the truths in the word of God that shows us that once we have received Christ and accepted His sacrifice for us by faith, we can be sure that we are saved and will spend eternity with our heavenly Father.

I. The Assurance of our Salvation Is Based on God’s Promises

Consider the truths in

John 5:24

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment but has passed from death to life”.

John 10:28-29

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand”.

John 1:12 says

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”

II. The Assurance of Our Salvation Is Based on Person of Christ

Consider John 11:25-26

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

God’s Covenant of Grace is the sacred bond in blood that “what God requires, God provides” in the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ.

1. He is your righteousness.

John 3:36 says

”He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on Him.”

2. He is our substitute for our Punishment

John 5:24 says

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My words and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”

The sinner needs a substitute to take the punishment for our sins

3. He is our Advocate, Our High Priest.

Romans 10:9 says

..“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

The sinner must have an advocate who represents us and makes atonement on our behalf.

III. The Assurance of Our Salvation Is Based on the Holy Spirit’s Power

Consider Ephesians 1:13

“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,”

Titus 3:5 says

…“not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,”

Ephesians 4:30

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

Conclusion:

Our salvation is based on the perfect and complete salvation that God provided us through our Lord and Savior. Let us then take joy and pleasure in what God’s Word is saying. Instead of doubting, we can live in assurance and have this confidence from Christ’s own Word that our salvation is sure.
