Are You A God-Seeker?

He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success. 2 Chronicles 26:5

Uzziah sought the Lord, and as long as he did so, God gave him success.

Many times, we think that when we seek God, we are doing God a favour. But it’s actually the opposite. When you seek God, you are doing a favour to yourself.

That is why, Bible time and again asks us to seek Him.

Jesus emphasises this when He said in Matthew 6:33 – But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Psalmist says in Psalm 63: O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee

Uzziah was a great king. You will be surprised by the enormity of God’s blessings..

1. His military reign prospered (2 Chron 26:6 & 7).

2. He brought about great infrastructure development (2 Chron 26:9 & 10) Animal husbandry – 10

3. He brought about revolution in agriculture – (2 Chron 26:10)

4. Again from vs 11, we read about his military expeditions

5. Vs 15 ends like this – his fame spread far and wide, for he was marvelously helped till he became strong.

Uzziah became king when he was just 16 years old. You know what was the reason for this success He had?

Was it the leadership abilities he possessed? Did he have good people who stood by his side and supported him? Was he educationally well-qualified?

Not at all! Bible mentions nothing about any of these. There was just one secret to his great success. He sought God.

Yes, when we seek God, God gives us success. You need not follow success, success will come following you.

As Psalm 23:6 says – Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.

So what is seeking God? It is knowing God enough to know His will for my life. To know the purpose of my existence. And that would happen only when I develop a deeper relationship with Him.

Bible says ‘As long as he sought God..’ which means there was obviously a time when he stopped seeking God.

Seeking God is not a one-time job; it is not something that happened on the day you accepted Christ as my Saviour. It is an on-going process. Something that needs to take place every day, every minute and every second of your life!

What happens in your life when you stop seeking God? Your downfall begins. Exactly, that’s what happened to Uzziah.

Pride entered his heart. He thought he was solely to be credited for all achievements. Having succeeded in every arena – be it military, agriculture or construction – Uzziah now wanted to enter the priestly realm as well. Ambition and desire began to occupy the place of God.

2 Chron 26:16 says But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense

Even King David, although a man after God’s own heart, never attempted to enter into what was for priests. He refused to listen to any warnings. And as a result, he became a leper.

Bible says, 1 Peter 5:5 says for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. Some versions say, He opposes the proud. If God is opposing you, no one can help you.

At any time, pride and ambition can creep into our life and take away your devotion to God. You begin to seek other things than God. Constantly check your attitude and focus on Christ alone.
