Matthew 27:36-54 Psalm 85:10

Large Hadron Collider (LHC)

(The world’s largest and highest-energy partial accelerator.)

It is located on the Swiss border near Geneva.

The racetrack is 17 miles long and 575 feet underground.

There were fears that black-holes would form and destroy the Earth.

Explain the function the collider (collision!) ...like a car to see what the engine is made up of.

The collisions that occur at the LHC are scientifically important:

They are trying to answer fundamental physic question.

They are trying to understand the deep structure of space and time.

They are trying to figure out the Higgs Boson partial.

They want to explore the theory of Supersymmetry.

And they want to know what the nature of the Dark Matter is that makes up about 23% of the Universe.

As important as this all is in the natural and temporal existence of man –

I want to look at (stare at it until I’m Crossed-Eye’ed) the collisions that took place at Calvary!

Let’s consider some of the forces in nature that were swirling around the Cross that day:

Envy: “For he(Jesus) knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.” Mark 15:10

Fear: Pilate would not release Jesus for fear of the Jews.

Pride was there; Hatred was there; violence was there!

Swirling around the foot of that cross that day was all of this stuff.

Yet, on that cross 2 forces were colliding with un-presented force:

The collision was so powerful that the sky darkened

The Earth shook

The rocks rent

The veil tore and some of the graves opened.

For it was on Calvary that God’s love for mankind collided with His hatred of man’s sin!

In the Old Testament altar of sacrifice there was no remission (forgiveness) of sins…

They were just rolled ahead.

Oh but at Calvary: They went mono-e-mono; skully-skully; head to head.

Let’s take a look at these 2 forces:

Mankind’s Sin:

Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin [is] a reproach to any people.”

Isaiah 59:1-2 “1- Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2- But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.”

I Corinthians 6:9-11 “9- Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10- Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11- And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

“The wages of sin is death.”

“The soul that sinneth, it shall surely die.”

Sin is bad!

Sin will take you further than you want to go.

Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay.

Sin will cost you more than you can pay.

Sin will hurt you in every way!

Sin is a bad road to get on.

Those who have traveled this road look back and ask, “How did I get here?”

It simple really, that is where that road goes.

We leave Big Clifty and jump on the WK West bound to come to Church. If we don’t turn off of it onto the Natcher well end up in Paducah, because that is where that road goes!

God’s Love:

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Psalm 8:4 “What is man, that thou art mindful (continually) of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?”

I John 3:1 “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”

John 1:1, 14 “1- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14- And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

Philippians 2:8 “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

The Cross is the center of it all!

Keep your eyes on the Cross!

God knows the end from the beginning

And He speaks of those things that are not as though are.

God knew man would sin.

God knew what it would cost.

And God did it anyway.

II Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
