TEXT:
Luke 17:17-20
Luke 17:17 And Jesus answering said, " WERE THERE
NOT TEN CLEANSED? WHERE ARE THE NINE?
18. There are not found that returned to
GIVE GLORY to God, except this stranger.
19. And he said unto him,
(The Thankful one)
ARISE, GO thy way: your faith
(teamed with giving thanks) hath made thee WHOLE...
DARE WE APPROACH THE KING WITH HALITOSIS?
Fetid, bad breath?
In the days of Kings one had to approach the King pleasant , smiling, and joyful. If one approached the King with a bad attitude or in the wrong attitude his life could be in danger.
Esther knew to approach the King properly!
I ponder giving thanks.
I ponder, why don’t they call it Thanks Taking?
Thanks is giving!
You can give without loving ...
but you can never love without giving.
God loves a cheerful giver, one that does not give out of necessity,
2 Corinthians 9:7,
further clarifies ... purposed or planned giving.
We often practice accidental or coincidental
thanks giving.
Is giving thanks just because of a proclamation that one Thursday in November we gather to eat turkey?
Only TURKEYS are not thankful?
Giving thanks should be humble service everyday
of the year?
1) GIVING THANKS IS A HEM.
We understand that a hem,
a border of a piece of cloth is doubled back
and stitched down,
is so to restrict the edge from coming UNRAVELED.
Giving thanks in daily life has the same purpose
as hemming.
Daily living hemmed with giving thanks is far more
less likely to come unraveled.
Unthankful, demanding, expecting words will
tend to cause separation.
Confusion thrives in the soil of unthankfulness.
2) What does the Word say:
Psalms 92:1 It is a good thing to GIVE THANKS
unto the Lord...
Psalms 100:4 Enter into His gates with
Thanksgiving and into His courts with praise.
Psalms 107:1O, GIVE THANKS unto the Lord,
for He is good: for His mercy endureth forever.
3) FAITH MUST BE TEAMED WITH GIVING THANKS FOR A COMPLETE WHOLENESS!
As faith without works is dead, faith exercised
without thanksgiving is empty.
Luke 17:17-20
Luke 17:17 And Jesus answering said, " WERE THERE
NOT TEN CLEANSED? WHERE ARE THE NINE?
It appears ten were touched, but nine had a
lacking?
What were they lacking?
An attitude of lack of praise and appreciation
will hinder a completeness!
Luke 17:18. There are not found that returned to
GIVE GLORY to God, except this stranger.
The other nine knew better than run away,
but they had a religious commitment to fulfill.
We must guard against duty becoming so
binding, that we miss the GLORY!
Luke 17:19. And he said unto him,
(The Thankful one)
ARISE, GO thy way: your faith
(teamed with giving thanks) hath made thee WHOLE...
While nine were touched, only one was made WHOLE,
free from wounds and injury.
One was totally restored.
One became sound physically, mentally, emotionally,
and spiritually...
What was the difference?
An attitude of gratitude!
One definition for this wholeness is having the
same Father and Mother.
The rewards and dividends for giving thanks is well
worth it.
4) WITHOUT GIVING THANKS THERE IS A VOID!
Life without thanksgiving is totally
void of LOVE and PASSION...
Faith without giving thanks lacks power,
zeal in the face of adversity...
Hope without giving thanks lacks vision,
imagination, foresight, and no dream ...
the GIFTS divorced from thankfulness is lame,
crippled, a tinkling cymbal...
5) GIVING THANKS IS A CORNERSTONE OF BLESSINGS!
If you have reasonable good health, seeing eyes,
walking legs, moving arms, a thinking mind,
and a living family you should have lifted hands
praising a GREAT GOD.
6) Pride is demanding and expecting, saying I deserve more...
Grace is unmerited favor and appreciation.
If we received what we deserved we would face doom.
Jesus became the bridge to cross the gap that sin
left.
7)GIVING THANKS IS A VACCINE.
A vaccine kills micro organisms, small things.
Unthankfulness is a small infection that will bring
death to the host.
Giving thanks states our believes not our doubts
and fears.
We WHINE, MURMUR, complain, speak discontentment,
gripe, find fault?
Is this giving thanks?
Have you ever seen a museum built to honor critics?
As we analyze others problems we fall into two
sins...
A) we put others down,
B) we elevate self.
Both of these attitudes are cancer,
a self feeding monster.
Giving thanks becomes an antitoxin, an antibiotic,
an antiseptic for depression and discouragement.
Giving thanks stops the effective spread of sadness.
Thanksgiving stops the sin of complaining and being
disgruntled.
8) The spirit of Thanksgiving is soothing antiseptic
that improves HALITOSIS,
A HEAVY OFFENSIVE SMELLING BREATH.
We need our breath to be pleasing to the God that gave it to us. We need to be giving thanks, love, and appreciation. Giving thanks will make our breath sweet to the nostrils of God.
