Summary: This is a humorous outline, not to be taken seriously, for any preacher who's had to struggle delivering a message while he or she has a sore throat. Maybe, though, less really is more......???
An Outline for a "Sore-Throat" Sermon
Introduction: This outline is admittedly a humorous attempt to present an outline or message, especially when the preacher has a cold or otherwise suffers from a sore throat! To paraphrase a commercial or something I once heard years ago, “Do you suffer from a sore throat?” The reply, “Well, what else would you do when you have one!”
First, I don’t honestly expect anybody to actually _use_ this outline, even though there were times it seemed mighty tempting! Second, let’s admit it, all of us in ministry could use a dash of humor once in a while, right? So let’s have a laugh, and, if you’re still nursing a sore throat like I am, maybe pop another cough drop or something!
Let’s go!
Text: Matthew 22:12b, KJV: “And he was speechless”.
Preface: Okay, I had to find a Bible verse and I know this is taking a verse out of context, but relax! Remember, we’re dealing with preachers who have sore throats here!
Point 1: Look at the text from the bulletin (or whatever method you use)
Point 2: You see it?
Point 3: Read it, heed it, we need it!
Point 4: Now let’s get out of here and live it like we believe it!
Closing prayer and, maybe, a rush to the exit doors.
Remember, this is humor and not to be taken literally. I lead the singing as well as deliver the messages at my small church and there have been times I’ve needed a handful of cough drops just to get past the offertory hymn. Besides, I’m a natural bass-baritone and leading “Blessed Assurance” while sounding like a southern gospel bass singer isn’t easy!
