Psalm 94 An Angry God

1. God's Revelation -

His Prerogative - 1 O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth;

His Power - O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.

His Position - 2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth:

His Purpose - render a reward to the proud.

2. God's Reservation - His Patience with -

Their Ways - 3 Lord, how long shall the wicked, .... triumph?

Their Words - 4 How long shall they utter and speak hard things?

and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?

Their Works -

They Decimate - 5 They break in pieces

They Discriminate - 5 They break in pieces, thy people, O Lord,

They Desecrate - and afflict thine heritage.

Their Wickedness - They Have -

No Fear - 6 They slay the widow

No Favour - and the stranger,

No Feeling - and murder the fatherless.

Their Willfulness -

Their Confession - 7 Yet they say,

Their Confusion - The Lord shall not see,

Their Conclusion - neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

3. God's Remonstration - God Calls -

For Wisdom - 8 Understand, ye brutish among the people: ye fools, when will ye be wise?

For Worship - 9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear?

he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

For Willingness - 10 He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct?

he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?

For Watchfulness - 11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

4. God's Resolution -

To Correct Man - 12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord,

and teachest him out of thy law;

To Protect Him - 13 that thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

To Connect Him - 14 For the Lord will not cast off his people,

neither will he forsake his inheritance.

To Direct Him - 15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness:

and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

To Perfect Him - 16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?

or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

5. God's Regulation - His -

Help - 17 Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

Hold - 18 When I said My foot slippeth; thy mercy O Lord, held me up

Hope - 19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

6. God's Retribution - Their -

Separation - 20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee,

which frameth mischief by a law?

Syndication - 21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous,

and condemn the innocent blood.

Supervision - 22 But the Lord is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

Subjugation - 23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity,

It's Sovereign - 23 And he -

It's Sure - 23 shall

It's Solemn - bring upon them (Don't want it)

It's Sound - their own iniquity

It's Sudden - and shall cut them off in their own wickedness;

It's Set - yea, the Lord our God shall cut them off.

2 Thess 1:7 and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
