America is the dreamland of the world. It is such a dreamland that one of the biggest problems we have as a nation is stopping all the immigrants who try to enter this great land illegally.

As we celebrate America’s birthday, every American should be grateful and feel blessed that we can call ourselves Americans.

On this special time in our history as a nation, our nation’s birthday, let us look at the GOOD and BAD that we face as a nation.

I. AMERICA’S PREVIOUS HISTORY

When we think of this great country that God has given us, we can not help but to think of what the Psalmist said in Psalm 44.

Look at verses 1-3, he said, “We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.”

Notice, the psalmist in these three verses tells us over and over again what God did. He said, “Our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.”

In other words, he said God, we were not around:

• When you sent the plaques to deliver your people from the bondage of Pharaoh

• When you led your people by cloud by day

• When you led your people by a pillar of fire by night

• When you opened the red sea for your people to cross on dry ground

• When you fed your people with manna from heaven

• When you gave your people victory after victory over their enemies

He said we were not around, but “Our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.”

In other words David was saying, “Lord, the nation of Israel has become the greatest nation that ever existed on the face of the earth, not because of anything we have done, but because you MADE IT A GREAT NATION!”

Without a doubt, when you compare Israel to all the nations that ever existed, Israel stands out head and shoulders above all the rest. Oh how God has blessed this nation!

No other nation in the world can make the claims this great nation can make of how God miraculously took care of them. But in spite of all their claims, the only reason they can boast at all is because God has so richly blessed them as a nation.

But what about America? Let’s look at -

A. THE FACT OF AMERICA’S GREAT HISTORY

Today America is the super power of the world. But the only reason we can boast that claim is because GOD HAS BLESSED THIS NATION.

• He has given us godly leaders in the past. To see that, all you have to do is study the history of this great nation, and you will see the hand of God is written all over the history pages.

• He has given us some of the smartest men and women to lead this nation.

(1) When it comes to technology, we lead all other nations.

(2) When it comes to medicine, people from all over the world come to America to our doctors and hospitals.

(3) When it comes to our universities, people from all over the world attend our universities.

(4) When it comes to beauty, people from all over the world come to see this lovely land in which we live.

• He has given us some of the richest land to raise our crops.

• He has blessed us with rain time and time again to water our crops.

And while we are popping our fire-works, and throwing our parties, we must not forget to look up to God who has blessed us with these blessings, and say, “We have all these things because of YOU!”

If it were not for the blessings of God on this nation, we could be a chapter in the history books, like other nations, as a nation that at one time existed but no longer exists.

God has given us victory after victory over our enemies.

• In the Revolutionary War - we seemingly had no chance but God wrought a great victory.

• In the French War - we seemingly had no chance, but God wrought a great victory.

• W.W.I - God gave us a great victory!

• W.W.II - God gave us a great victory!
