Summary: All Hell Let Loose

Acts 5:12 - 42 All Hell Let Loose

1. The Wonder

It's Source - Their Ministry - 12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people;

It's Song - Their Melody -

and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

It's Separation - Their Majesty - 13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. Some Resent it, Some Resist it, Some Refuse it, Some Reject it, But Some Respect it.

But God Willed It, Wanted It, Worked It, and God Welcomed It.

It's Salvation - Their Mystery - 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women. Channels Only.

It's Service - Their Modesty - 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

It's Success - Their Mastery - 16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits:

and they were healed every one

2. The Warfare

The Route - The Time - 17 Then the high priest rose up,

The Rabble - The Team - and all they that were with him,

(which is the sect of the Sadducees,) Denying the Resurrection.

The Rage - The Terror - and were filled with indignation,

The Rigour - The Target - 18 and laid their hands on the apostles,

The Result - The Test - and put them in the common prison.

3. The Work

The Divine Release - 19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

The Direct Request - 20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

The Dynamic Response - 21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught.

4. The World - Matthew 28:18-20

The Master's Power - 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Is All Encompassing, All Enlisting, All Embracing, and All Encouraging.

The Master's Plan -

Implies Movement - 19 Go ye therefore,

Implies Mission - and teach all nations,

Implies Momentum - baptizing them in the name of the Father,

and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (They are not alone)

The Master's Path -

The Task - 20 teaching them

The Test - to observe all things

The Text - whatsoever I have commanded you:

The Truth - and, lo, I am with you alway,

The Trust - even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The Triumph - even unto the end of the age - Irrevocable.

5. The Worry –

The Company - 21,

The Query - 22 -23

The Quandary - 24 they doubted of them whereunto this would grow

The Controversy - 25 Then came one and told them, saying,

Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

The Courtesy - 26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

6. The Witness –

The Check - 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

The Challenge - 28 saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name?

The Change - and behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine,

The Charge - and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

7. The Word –

The Priority of The Word - 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said,

We ought to obey God rather than men.

I. THE PRINCIPLE OF OBEDIENCE - We ought to obey God Because of -

His Sovereignty, His Son, His Sacrifice, His Salvation, His Supplication.

II. THE PRICE OF OBEDIENCE - rather than men.

Luke 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you!

for so did their fathers to the false prophets. -

1 Thessalonians 2:4 but as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men,

but God, which trieth our hearts.

III. THE PROMISE OF OBEDIENCE -

Power - 32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Praise - 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name
