Today, we're going to dive into an incredible story from the book of 1 Samuel, where we'll discover the power of acceleration, the necessity of execution, and the blessing of obedience. Before we get started, I want to share a quote from A.W. Tozer who said, "To obey is to find freedom; to disobey is to find bondage." What a powerful reminder that when we choose to follow God and obey His Word, we experience true freedom and blessings in our lives.
Now, let's turn our attention to the Scripture passage for today, which comes from 1 Samuel 16:12-13:
So he sent and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, 'Rise and anoint him; this is the one.' So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.
The power of acceleration is the idea that when we align ourselves with God's will and purpose for our lives, He can propel us forward in ways that we could never have imagined. In David's case, he went from being a shepherd boy to being anointed as the future king of Israel in a relatively short period. This acceleration was not due to David's own efforts or abilities but was solely the result of God's divine intervention and favor.
God prepares us for the tasks He has called us to: Even before David was anointed by Samuel, God had been preparing him for his future role as king. As a shepherd, David learned valuable skills such as leadership, responsibility, and courage, which would later serve him well in his role as king. Additionally, David's time spent alone in the fields provided him with ample opportunity to develop a deep and intimate relationship with God. This spiritual foundation would prove to be crucial in helping David navigate the challenges and trials he would face as king.
God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things: David was the youngest of his brothers and was not considered by his family to be a likely candidate for kingship. In fact, when Samuel arrived at Jesse's house to anoint one of his sons, David was not even present, as he was out tending the sheep. However, God saw something in David that others did not - a heart that was fully devoted to Him. This is a powerful reminder that God does not look at outward appearances or qualifications when choosing those He will use for His purposes. Instead, He looks at the heart and is drawn to those who are humble, faithful, and obedient.
God brings transformation in our lives when we submit to His will: In David's case, his life was radically altered when Samuel anointed him with oil, signifying that he was the one chosen by God to be king. From that moment on, the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David, equipping and empowering him for the tasks that lay ahead. This dramatic shift in David's life serves as a reminder that when we surrender ourselves to God's plan, He can bring about significant change and growth in our lives in a relatively short period.
God opens doors that we could never have imagined: After David was anointed, he was brought into the service of King Saul as a musician and armor-bearer. This position not only allowed David to gain valuable experience and insight into the workings of the royal court but also provided him with the opportunity to develop a close relationship with Saul's son, Jonathan. This friendship would prove to be instrumental in helping David navigate the challenges and dangers he would face as he sought to fulfill his calling as king.
God can use our trials to propel us forward in our spiritual journey: In David's life, we see that his greatest moments of growth and development often came in the midst of adversity. Whether it was facing the giant Goliath, fleeing from the jealous rage of King Saul, or dealing with the consequences of his own sin, David's trials served to refine and strengthen his character, ultimately preparing him to be the king that God had called him to be.

The power of acceleration is available to each and every one of us when we choose to align ourselves with God's will and purpose for our lives. As we submit ourselves to His plan and allow Him to work in and through us, we can experience the same kind of divine acceleration that propelled David from the sheepfold to the throne.
However, it is also important to note that the power of acceleration is not a guarantee of a smooth or easy journey. In David's life, we see that his path to the throne was fraught with challenges, setbacks, and heartache. Yet, through it all, David remained steadfast in his faith and trust in God, knowing that the Lord was with him and would ultimately bring about His purposes in His perfect timing.
