Summary: Life is God’s gift to us.
ABUNDANT LIFE
(John 10:7-10) Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)
I. A GREAT NEED
“Life.”
A. IT IS A UNIVERSAL NEED.
(Hebrews 9:27) And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (KJV)
(Romans 5:12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (KJV)
1. We must admit our own failure.
“All have sinned.”
2. We must acknowledge one obvious fact.
“We are going to die.”
a. We can’t deny this fact.
“It has been appointed”
b. We can’t dodge this fact.
“Death passed upon all men.”
B. IT IS AN URGENT NEED.
1. We may be next.
(James 4:14) Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (KJV)
a. Death can come at any time by design.
b. Death can come at any time by disease.
c. Death can come any time by disaster.
2. We need it now.
II. A GREAT NEED WAS MET.
“I am come that they might have life.”
A. THE PERSON: WHO CAME?
“I am come”
1. Christ is the only source of life.
(1 John 5:12) He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (KJV)
2. Christ is the only one that can sustain life.
B. THE PURPOSE: WHY DID HE COME?
“That they might have life.”
1. A life that is free from sin
2. A life that is free from sickness
3. A life that is free from suffering
(Revelation 21:4) And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (KJV)
4. A life that is free from sorrow
(Revelation 7:17) For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. (KJV)
Conclusion: How heartbreaking it must have been for Christ. John 5:40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
