To encourage believers to obey God's call, live by faith, and trust in His plan, even when the path is unclear, just as Abraham did.

Introduction

Opening Scripture Reading – Good morning, church family! We're going to dig into the Word together today, and we're focusing on Hebrews 11:8. That's where we find this nugget of truth: "By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going." Now that's some serious faith, right?

We're talking about obeying God's call, living by faith, and trusting in God's plan. It's not always easy, but as the great Christian author A.W. Tozer said, "Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God." It's about keeping our eyes fixed on Him, no matter what we're going through.

Opening Prayer – Let's pray. Dear Heavenly Father, as we delve into Your Word today, we ask that You open our hearts and minds. Help us to not just understand, but to live out these truths. We want to obey Your call, live by faith, and trust in Your plan. In Jesus' name, amen.

Obeying God's Call

A. Obeying God's call is about receiving God’s commandments and having courage to act on what we hear. This is not always easy. In fact, it can be incredibly challenging. It requires us to step out of our comfort zones, to take risks, and to trust in God's plan for our lives. But as we see in the story of Abraham, it is also an essential part of our spiritual journey.

Abraham was called by God to leave his home and go to a place that God would show him. He didn't know where he was going, he didn't have a map or a detailed plan. All he had was God's promise that He would guide him and bless him. And Abraham obeyed. He packed up his family and his belongings and set out into the unknown, trusting in God's promise.

B. Abraham is a powerful example of what it means to obey God's call. It's not about having all the answers or knowing exactly what the future holds. It's about trusting that God knows what He's doing and that He will guide us and provide for us along the way. It's about being willing to step out in faith, even when we can't see the path ahead.

C. But obeying God's call is also about the small, everyday choices we make. It's about choosing to spend time in prayer and reading God's Word, even when we're busy. It's about choosing to love and serve others, even when it's inconvenient. It's about choosing to live a life of integrity and faithfulness, even when no one else is watching.

D. Obeying God's call also means being willing to let go of our own plans and desires. Sometimes, God's call may lead us in a direction that we never expected. It may require us to give up our dreams or our comfort. But as we see in the story of Abraham, God's plans are always better than our own. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
