A Word From God

Summary: Zacharias, and his wife Elizabeth, were good people. They loved the Lord and attempted to follow after Him with all their heart. They were well thought of people, both being descendants of Aaron; however, there was one major blight on their life: they h
It is important that we not let down on our faith, when we pray. Faith is the necessary human element to any and everything we will ever receive from God. We are saved when we place our faith in the grace of God. It’s that way in everything. Hebrews 11:6 says, “For without faith it is impossible to please Him. For he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Of the person who says prayers, but doesn’t lay hold on by faith, James 1:7 says, “For let not that man think he shall receive anything from the Lord.” There is only one thing that is more fundamental in our walk with God than faith, and that is love. First Corinthians 13:2 says, “...though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
God had a special reason for waiting until this particular time to give Zacharias and Elizabeth a son. He was going to make him one of the greatest men in human history, and He was going to give him a ministry that would change the world. In Matthew 11:11, Jesus said, “Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” Whatever needs to be said about the latter part of that verse, we have to acknowledge that Jesus paid John a tremendous compliment in the first part of it. I once became very angry at my dad, because he wouldn’t buy me some 99 cent handlebar grips for my bicycle. What I didn’t know, was that in just few days, he was going to give a brand new bicycle for my birthday that would have all kinds of wonderful accessories on it, including some handlebar grips just like those I wanted for my old bicycle!
God is offended when we do not believe what He says
For a man of God, Zacharias did a very unwise thing, however it is not unlike what many people of God do. He asked, “How do I know this is true?” For the next nine months, he went around not able to say a word! It is as if God said, “If your mouth is going speak such words of doubt, I’ll just stop your mouth until you’re convinced of My faithfulness!” When God says He will do something, we are very foolish to say, “I hope He will do it.”
The Bible is filled with great and precious promises, and when we are born again, they are ours. There is a promise of salvation for the whosoevers of this world. The whosoevers who will turn to God in faith through Jesus, are promised life everlasting. What a deal!
