Summary: What is a godly mother?
Introduction:
“Let France have good mothers and she will have good sons” – Napoleon
“All I am my mother made me”. John Quincy Adams
I. A godly Mother is joyful over her children. (Genesis 21:6)
- (Pro 31:28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:)
II. A godly Mother is devoted to her Children. (I Samuel 1:22)
- (Pro 31:15 She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.)
- (Pro 31:21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.)
- (Pro 31:25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.)
- (Pro 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.)
- (Pro 31:27 She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.)
III. A godly Mother is filled with the Spirit of God. (Luke 1:41)
- (Pro 31:30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.)
- When we stop fearing God life becomes about us rather than the Lord.
- We become self-centered instead of Christ centered
- Our agenda is more important than God’s agenda
IV. A godly Mother Praise God. (Luke 1:46)
- (Pro 31:30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.)
V. A godly Mother is Faithful. (II Timothy 1:5)
- (Pro 31:29 "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.")
- (Pro 31:28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:)
- We need to be sure that we are not just receiving praise because we have capitulated to our children’s wants.
- We need to be praised because we have taught out children to walk in the ways of God and our husbands and children recognize godliness and are praising that.
- It is easy to praise worldly things.
Conclusion:
Psalm 127:1 Except the Lord Build the house, they labor in vain that build it…
