Summary: We must eliminate the world-poisoning that makes us spiritually sick.

A Spiritual Enema

November 3, 2013 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: We must eliminate the world-poisoning that makes us spiritually sick.

Focus Passage: Romans 8:1-8

Supplemental Passage: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2 NASB)

Introduction: Archie comes home for a nice dinner that Edith has prepared: beef and mushroom stew. Later, when Mike comes to the table for dinner, he finds Archie has completely finished his meal and then breaks the news that there has been a recall at the supermarkets of a certain brand of mushroom. Convinced that he has food poisoning, Archie rushes down to the hospital for treatment. (http://www.tv.com/shows/all-in-the-family/archie-eats-and-runs-38189/) During all of the commotion, Edith asks Archie, “Do you want an enema?” While this makes for funny TV, in real life, food poisoning is no laughing matter. In spiritual life, world-poisoning is no laughing matter either. While there isn’t technically a “Spiritual Enema”, we can do much to eliminate our lives of spiritual sicknesses that world-poisoning gives us.
