This sermon explores God's grace, guidance, and greatness through the story of Jonah, emphasizing obedience, repentance, and the transformative power of God's Word.
Good morning, dear church family. It's a blessing to be here with you today, standing on the solid foundation of God's Word as we gather in His name. We are here, not by accident, but by divine appointment. We are here, not to hear the words of a man, but to listen to the voice of our God speaking through His Word.
Today, we turn our hearts and minds to the book of Jonah, chapter 3. This is not just a story about a man and a big fish. This is a story about our God - a God of grace, a God of guidance, and a God of greatness.
In the words of the great preacher, Tim Keller, “The irony of the gospel is that the only way to be worthy of it is to admit that you’re completely unworthy of it.” Let's read together Jonah 3: "Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: 'Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.' Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took three days to go through it. Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming, 'Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.' The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust."
What an incredible passage! What an incredible God we serve! Let's take a moment to bow our heads in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you today, humbled and in awe of your grace, your guidance, and your greatness. As we open your Word, we ask that you open our hearts. Speak to us, Lord. Show us your truth. Show us your love. Show us your power. And may we, like Jonah, obey your call, trust in your plan, and marvel at your work in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen.
Now, dear brothers and sisters, let's look closely at the incredible truths revealed in this passage. Let's see how God's grace gives us second chances, how His guidance directs our calling, and how His greatness is displayed in our lives. Let's see how the God of Jonah is still our God today.
As we continue to immerse ourselves in the story of Jonah, we find ourselves in the midst of a divine directive ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
