(We are part of a royal priesthood)

Adapted from a message by Roddy Chestnut

I Peter 2:9

August 25th, 2013

Solid Rock Baptist Church

Rev Dan Bauder

Last week we began a series of messages outlining our identity as Christians. Romans 8:15-17 told us we are God’s children. In adition to being God’s children we are also...

I. A CHOSEN GENERATION

A. God chose us. We didn’t choose Him.

B. Because we are a chose Generation we can enjoy God’s divine provision

and protection. If God is for us who can be against us.

II. A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD

A. God has made all of us priests. Lets consider the significance of that.

1. In the Old testament to serve in the temple you had to be a levite.or a priest. Both offices were given to a select few Levites were sons of Levi and priests were Aaron’s sons. The High Priest was the only one who could go into the Holy of Holies which was partitioned off by a huge 60 foot veil (describe the layout of the temple

B. Jesus placed himself on the cross becoming the perfect sacrifice. (See Matt 26:39, 53, 54)

1. It wasn’t coincidence Jesus was crucifcified during the time of Passover.

He became the lamb of God.

C. The moment Jesus died on the cross the veil was torn (see Mark 15:38)

D. This created a way for man to have direct access to God

III. A HOLY NATION

A. We have been st apart by God!!!

B. Our sins are GONE!!!

C. We can boldly go into God’s presence!!!

IV. A PECULIAR PEOPLE

A. We have a job to do (see Matt 5:16) B. People are looking to the church to find

God. It is up to us how much of the Lord they see
