Summary: Jesus should be the main desire and focus of our life

ONE THING PERSON

Text: Read Psalms 27:4

Introduction: Growing up, I loved to play baseball. There are two kinds of ball players, good ballplayers & great ballplayers. I was dang good. My brother told me if I wanted to be good, I needed to be good @ every position. Was he wrong. Today baseball players are paid millions of dollars to play one position. Pitchers are paid outrageous sums of money to pitch one or at the most two innings. Maybe there is something to being a one-thing person.

People focus on many things, many of the wrong things. Money, materials, popularity, beauty.

*** The one & only thing that matters is your relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

To be a one-thing person we should use these 4 Cs.

I. CONSIDER THE CHOICES.

A. Right or wrong.

B. Someone has said, “ Life is filled with choices & then you live out the rest of your life with the consequences of your choices.”

C. We should also consider the consequences. With every choice there are consequence we must face. Some good, some bad

II. COMPARE IT TO GOD.

A. God’s word is where we can find all our answers.

B. God’s word will never let you down.

C. Psalms 19:7-8 “ The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”

III. COMMIT TO HIS WAYS.

A. Psalms 37:5 “Commit your way to the Lord, Trust in him, And He will bring it to pass.”

B. Commit means to entrust or to practice

C. We need to be more committed the things of God.

IV. COUNT ON GOD’S PROVISION & PROTECTION.

A. Living the Christian life is not an easy task.

B. We will face temptation, persecutions & sufferings.

C. I Peter 3:17 “For it is better if God should will it so that you suffer for doing what is right than for doing what is wrong.”

Close: One of my favorite movies is city slicker with Billy Crystal & Jack Palance. In one scene Jack Palance tells Billy Crystal he knows the secret to life. He says it’s one thing. Billy Crystal doesn’t get it. Jack Palance tells him again it’s one thing, find that one thing & keep that the one thing of your life.

Psalms 86:11-12 “Teach me you way, O Lord; I will walk in your truth; Unite my heart to fear your name. I will praise You, O lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify your name forevermore.”

If you don’t know Jesus you need to make Him the “One Thing” in your life.
