A kiss or an embrace
Rth 1:1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
Elimelech and family left Bethlehem which means the house of bread because there was no bread and went to a land that had its roots in an incestuous affair.
Sometimes there will be famine but we must stay in the house of bread.
Rth 1:3 And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
Elemelchs name means almighty and strength
Naomi means pleasant happy agreeable
There are times we lose it seems all of our strength
Rth 1:5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
And when it seems it cant get any worse here it comes again but even worse
Seems like you lost everything and your attitude is maybe everybody is just better off just staying away from me
I really have nothing to offer
Rth 1:14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
Rth 1:15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
Rth 1:16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Rth 1:17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Rth 1:18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.
Steadfastly minded- aw-mats’ to be alert, - confirm, be courageous (of good courage, stedfastly minded, strong, stronger), establish, fortify, harden, increase, prevail, strengthen (self), make strong (obstinate, speed).
Orpah was a kisser didn’t mind a little affection a fleeting encounter to sooth the conscience
Her name means broken neck or broken down
Those who are broken in battle in most cases never developed a strong tight relationship w/ their god
They have the affection and the religion but lack the relationship
But ruth was not just kisser she was an embracer she hugged and held on in spite of losing father in law 2 brother in laws and sister in law she said I aint letting go
Ruths name means friend
Those who suffer loss pain and heart brake but have become friends of god will stay although there is dissapontment
Sorrow attacks disrespect violations mistreatment they will stay
We become gods friend by spending time and listening and valuing and loving and ministering to him
Are we kissers or embracers
Rth 1:19 So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?
Rth 1:20 And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
Rth 1:21 I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?
Naomi pleasant said call me mara bitter angry I left home full we never really realize how good home in gods prescence is until we are away from it
If you remember Naomi and her family left Bethlehem Judah because of famine
Things just aren’t right around here
I don’t like the way the preacher talked to me or looked at me
They wont let me do my thing
Somebody hurt me
Ill just leave
But with the lack of enough bread Naomi still had her health her family and her happiness now she went to a land of impurity and she lost it all
Thank god she had enough sense to come back to the house of bread she called it home
This is my house this is my home I don’t want to go to moab
No matter who may hurt me or disagree with me or who doesn’t like me this will always be my home the prescence of god the church of god
This world is not my home I am just a passing through
The people of this world is not my family but gods people is my family
Rth 2:1 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
