A kiss or an embrace
Rth 1:1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
Elimelech and family left Bethlehem which means the house of bread because there was no bread and went to a land that had its roots in an incestuous affair.
Sometimes there will be famine but we must stay in the house of bread.
Rth 1:3 And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
Elemelchs name means almighty and strength
Naomi means pleasant happy agreeable
There are times we lose it seems all of our strength
Rth 1:5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
And when it seems it cant get any worse here it comes again but even worse
Seems like you lost everything and your attitude is maybe everybody is just better off just staying away from me
I really have nothing to offer
Rth 1:14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
Rth 1:15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
Rth 1:16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Rth 1:17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Rth 1:18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.
Steadfastly minded- aw-mats’ to be alert, - confirm, be courageous (of good courage, stedfastly minded, strong, stronger), establish, fortify, harden, increase, prevail, strengthen (self), make strong (obstinate, speed).
Orpah was a kisser didn’t mind a little affection a fleeting encounter to sooth the conscience
Her name means broken neck or broken down
Those who are broken in battle in most cases never developed a strong tight relationship w/ their god
They have the affection and the religion but lack the relationship
But ruth was not just kisser she was an embracer she hugged and held on in spite of losing father in law 2 brother in laws and sister in law she said I aint letting go
Ruths name means friend
Those who suffer loss pain and heart brake but have become friends of god will stay although there is dissapontment
Sorrow attacks disrespect violations mistreatment they will stay
We become gods friend by spending time and listening and valuing and loving and ministering to him
Are we kissers or embracers
Rth 1:19 So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?
Rth 1:20 And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
Rth 1:21 I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?
Naomi pleasant said call me mara bitter angry I left home full we never really realize how good home in gods prescence is until we are away from it
If you remember Naomi and her family left Bethlehem Judah because of famine
Things just aren’t right around here
I don’t like the way the preacher talked to me or looked at me
They wont let me do my thing
Somebody hurt me
Ill just leave
But with the lack of enough bread Naomi still had her health her family and her happiness now she went to a land of impurity and she lost it all
Thank god she had enough sense to come back to the house of bread she called it home
This is my house this is my home I don’t want to go to moab
No matter who may hurt me or disagree with me or who doesn’t like me this will always be my home the prescence of god the church of god
This world is not my home I am just a passing through
The people of this world is not my family but gods people is my family
Rth 2:1 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
Rth 2:2 And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
Rth 2:3 And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
Ruth said let me go work I am going to get me some favor
And the scripture says and her hap or fortune was to light on a part of the field belonging to boaz.
Boaz came and saw this hard working lady and wanted to know who it was.
And the boss told boaz this lady has been here from the morning until now she has been working very hard
So boaz spoke to ruth saying Watch where they are harvesting and follow them. And don’t worry about a thing; I’ve given orders to my servants not to harass you. When you get thirsty, feel free to go and drink from the water buckets that the servants have filled."
Rth 2:10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
An inferior acknowledging one stronger than he
Submission and worhsip
She dropped to her knees, then bowed her face to the ground. "How does this happen that you should pick me out and treat me so kindly--me, a foreigner?"
Boaz answered her, "I’ve heard all about you--heard about the way you treated your mother-in-law after the death of her husband, and how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth and have come to live among a bunch of total strangers.
We reap what we sow
GOD reward you well for what you’ve done--and with a generous bonus besides from GOD, to whom you’ve come seeking protection under his wings."
She said, "Oh sir, such grace, such kindness--I don’t deserve it. You’ve touched my heart, treated me like one of your own. And I don’t even belong here!"
At the lunch break, Boaz said to her, "Come over here; eat some bread. Dip it in the vinegarsoshejointhe harvesters. Boaz passed the roasted grain to her. She ate her fill and even had some left over.
Rth 2:16 And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
God said leave handfuls but there is purpose in this hard work and in this lack right now ive got a special job for you ruth.
When she got up to go back to work, Boaz ordered his servants: "Let her glean where there’s still plenty of grain on the ground--make it easy for her.
Better yet, pull some of the good stuff out and leave it for her to glean. Give her special treatment."
Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. When she threshed out what she had gathered, she ended up with nearly a full sack of barley!
She gathered up her gleanings, went back to town, and showed her mother-in-law the results of her day’s work; she also gave her the leftovers from her lunch.
Naomi asked her, "So where did you glean today? Whose field? GOD bless whoever it was who took such good care of you!" Ruth told her mother-in-law, "The man with whom I worked today? His name is Boaz."
Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "Why, GOD bless that man! GOD hasn’t quite walked out on us after all! He still loves us, in bad times as well as good!" Naomi went on, "That man, Ruth, is one of our circle of covenant redeemers, a close relative of ours!"
Hey god hasn’t forgot us he’s got a plan
In the death of the the 2 husbands of Naomi and ruth they lost their inheritance but whe she said
One of our next kinsmen - îâàìéðå miggoaleynu, of our redeemers, one who has the right to redeem the forfeited inheritance of the family. The word âàì goel signifies a near kinsman - one who by the Mosaic law had a right to redeem an inheritance, and also was permitted to vindicate or revenge the death of his relation by killing the slayer, if he found him out of the cities of refuge.
In order to prevent families from running to decay, if a brother died childless, the next unmarried brother took his widow; and the children from that marriage were reputed the children of the deceased brother. The office of the next akin was threefold:
1. It belonged to him to buy back the forfeited inheritance, or the liberty of him who had been obliged to sell himself for a servant.
2. It was his right to avenge the blood of any of the family who had been killed, by killing the murderer.
3. It belonged to him to take the widow of a deceased brother or relative, if he died childless.
