Summary: This is a sermon for the funeral of a Baby. It gives hope, help, and comfort to the parents and other family and friends.
Funeral for a Baby
Isaiah 55:6-13
I. The Hurt…
A. I know of no hurt like that of a child
taken in death.
B. It hurts because it seems unfair.
Isa. 55:8 For my thoughts are not your
thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith
the LORD.
1. Only the Lord knows why He would
take a child
2. He may or may not reveal the reason
to us.
3. Don’t try to place blame or find
fault
4. Don’t be angry with God.
C. It hurts because we don’t understand.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than
the earth, so are my ways higher than your
ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
1. God is omnipotent
2. He knows all.
3. He is good…all the time
4. His reasons may not even be
understood by our finite minds.
D. He is the great physician, and though it
may hurt deeply now, He will bring healing.
1. The hurt may continue for a while.
2. It may never completely go away.
3. It is there to remind us of what
time we had, little though it may
be.
II. The Help
A. He does not leave us without help.
Isa. 55:1 Seek ye the LORD while he
may be found,
B. Seek the Lord
1. For comfort
John 14:18 I will not leave you
comfortless: I ;will come to you.
-He is called the “God of all comfort”
in 1 Corinthians 1:3
2. For courage
Josh. 1:9Have not I commanded thee? Be
strong and of a good courage; be not
afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for
the LORD thy God is with thee
whithersoever thou goest.
3. For strength
Psalms 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of
good courage, and he shall strengthen
thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD
4. For peace
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my
peace I give unto you: not as the
world giveth, give I unto you. Let not
your heart be troubled, neither let it
be afraid.
5. For wisdom
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom,
let him ask of God, that giveth to all
men liberally, and upbraideth not; and
it shall be given him.
C. Call on Him.
Isa. 55:1 Seek ye the LORD while he may be
found, call ye upon him while he is near:
1. God is near…
2. Call upon him, he will hear, and he
will help.
Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and
strength, a very present help in
trouble.
III. The Hope
The hope is found in the Word of God
Isaiah 55:11-12
A. We have the account of David in
2 Samuel 12 that gives us hope.
1. The baby had been sick and David
would not eat, he “lay all night
upon the earth.”
2. His friends tried to cheer him
up. “but he would not”
3. When the child died, David got up,
dressed up he went to church, and
began to eat.
4. When they asked him why, he
responded.
2 Sam 12:22-23 And he said, While the
child was yet alive, I fasted and
wept: for I said, Who can tell
whether GOD will be gracious to
me,that the child may live? But now
he is dead, wherefore should I fast?
can I bring him back again? I shall
go to him, but he shall not return
to me.
5. This verse teaches us two things.
a. Babies go right to heaven.
b. You can go to heaven too.
B. There is hope for you as well
It is found only in trusting the Lord.
John 14:1-6
God can heal the hurt
God can give you help
God can give you hope
Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
