A DECLARATION OF DEPENDENCE

II Chr 14:11

. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

As a country we are thankful for our independence and should always be willing to defend it. We should thank God for founding fathers that acknowledged in writing that God is the giver of rights.

Today I want us to also thank God that we can have independence from sin by being dependent on Him.

I. WITH OUR STRENGTH WE ARE DEPENDENT UPON GOD.

A. "Nothing is too big for my God to accomplish, and nothing is too little for Him to use in accomplishing it! " Aren’t you glad?

B. When temptation----this word means temptations or trials comes He is there. I Cor 10:13

When trials come He wants us to help each other. Galatians 6:2

C. Trying to live in our own light will lead to trouble. Isa 50:10-11

ILL. Radio—Showed Jesus film and said if you want to become a follower of Jesus come to the light.

II. WITH OUR VERY LIFE WE ARE DEPENDENT ON GOD.

A. Spiritually.....John 5:39-40

Even in Jesus’ day people tried to find eternal life in religious practices.

Salvation is explained and revealed in Scripture but it can only be obtained through Christ.

You can memorize the whole Bible and not be saved.

B. Physically.....II Cor 4:8-10

Every day may be our last but when we are a child of God we know that is in His hands and if we leave this world we will see what Paul meant when he said "To be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord."

III. WITH OUR LIVING WE ARE DEPENDENT ON GOD. I JOHN 4:15-17

A. Do you want to live for God? Do you want to live like God would have you live?

We must depend upon Him.

B. That happens when we:

1) Know the love of God—at Salvation

2) Believe the love of God— faith and trust in Him.

3) Dwell in the love of God----By being obedient to His will.

C. When we are dependent on God....others will see it....."So are we in this world"

My life shall touch a dozen lives before this day is done;

Leave countless marks for good or ill, ere sets the evening sun.

This is the wish I always wish, the prayer I always pray:

Lord, may my life help other lives it touches by the way.
