A CRY FOR GOD'S HELP
Psalms 142:1-7 I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication.
I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.
I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.
I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.
Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.
Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
The Psalmist, in Psalm 142 detailed his travails and cry unto the Lord in times of adversity.
We all face struggles and challenges in life. Sometimes, we feel overwhelmed and don't know where to turn but God is always available to help.
The Psalmist said in
Psalms 107:6
Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
Our God is a faithful God who is ever willing to to attend and answer as many as cry unto him. Infact, when the disciples cried unto Jesus, he saved them. Mark 4:38-39 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
There are, no doubt, different sorts of cry as the pains of one believer varies from the other. However, no matter the nature of trouble, our God is ever faithful to deliver when we cry unto him. Jesus says in John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
In actual fact, Jesus encourages believers to ask until their joy be full. In John 16:24 Jesus said, Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
Glory be to God! Our God is the all sufficient God who does not with hold anything good from his children.
Little wonder Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:19 declared: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Whenever we cry unto him, he answers. The Bible is full of numerous examples of those who cried to God for help and God indeed helped them.
The Bible records the account of the Blind beggar who even his friends and associates tried to descourage from crying unto the Lord but who against all odds cried the more until Jesus heard him. The Bible says in Mark 10:46-52 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
Hannah was barren and childless, yet remained faithful in serving God. She one day, at Shilloh cried unto the Lord and the Lord heard her and made her mother of children even great Samuel. The Bible says in Psalms 113:9
He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
Jabez had a terrible foundational challenge but had to cry to God and God answered him as recorded in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
