A Committed Relationship
Deut. 26:16-19
Intro.
Here we see an agreement between God and His
people.
Moses is giving a new generation of people His plans
for them.
He has reviewed the Laws or God from Leviticus
and parts of Exodus.
Laws concerning how to live (10 commandments)
Laws about worship
“For thou shalt worship no other god: for the
LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:” Exodus 34:14 KJV
Laws about Relationships.
“Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt
love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19:18 KJV)
Laws about eating right
Laws about hygiene and heath.
I. The Command. Vs. 16
A. The LORD has commanded you. Vs. 15
1. Do these statues and judgments.
a. These are not just suggestions
b. They are for your good
To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee
this day for thy good? Deuteronomy 10:13
2. Statutes - Decrees describing how to live in obedience to Him.
3. Judgments - Tell us how to handle situation that arise between people
B. Therefore, keep them and do them.
1. Keep them - guard them, don’t lose them.
2. Do them - Obey them.
3. With all thine heart and soul

c. Focused so that nothing distracts or deters you away from them

II. Our Commitment. Vs 17
A. Avouched” - Openly declared
1. A profession of Faith
2. Not a secret - it’s out in the open.
3. A public confession.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath
raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9 KJV
B. That the Lord is your God
1. LORD - Jehovah
2. That you will serve NO other gods.
a. Many around in that day.
b. Made of silver, gold, and sometimes wood.
3. Ex. 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4. Today we serve gods of self, stuff, and social media.
C. To walk in his ways.
1. To follow and obey Him.
2. To do what He says to do.
3. Not the way of the world - His ways
D. To Do what he tells us to do.
1. Statutes - Decrees describing how to live in obedience to Him.
2. Judgments - Tell us how to handle situation that arise between people
3. Commandments - an order or “You do this!”
E. To listen to His voice.
1. God has other things to say.
2. Harken - listen carefully to understand.
III. God’s Commitment to us. Vs. 18-19
“Avouched” again openly declared.
A. You will be His “peculiar” people.
1. Special
2. Separated
3. A treasure
B. Raise you up above all other.
1. Lift you up
1Pet. 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the
mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
2. More specifically to raise up the nation of Israel.
C. You will be a holy people.
1. Separated - pulled out.
2. Sanctified - purified for His glory.
Lev. 20:7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye
holy: for I am the LORD your God

a. Positional - made holy in Christ.
b. Practical - live right, avoid sin
That thou mayest walk in the way of good
men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
Proverbs 2:20
Conclusion
Our Commitment to God
Serve God only
Walk in His ways.
Obey Him
Listen to Him
God’s commitment to us
We would be his special people
He would raise us up
He would make us holy.
That holiness makes us fit for Heaven
Given to us by the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
It all comes down to our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
