Isaiah 40:28-31 - “Waiting Has Its Rewards”

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (40:31)

Jacob declared: “I have waited for Thy salvation” (Genesis 49:18).

Job said: “All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come” (Job 14:14).

David wrote: “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him” (Psalms 37:7).

Jeremiah “It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord”

(Lam 3:26).

In (Acts 1:4) the early disciples were told to “wait for the promise of the Father”

Paul states that we as believers are “waiting for the redemption of our body” (Rom 8:23). Paul describes how they were “to wait for His Son from Heaven” (I Thess 1:10).

When we wait upon the Lord He gives :-

I. POWER for the SOARING life. they shall mount up with wings as eagles;

“They will soar on wings like eagles.” “They will fly high on wings like eagles.”

Life is either SIGHING, or SOARING. (Depending on Our Waiting)

His Strength to rise above the Distractions, the Difficulties, and the Disappointments of life.

Like eagles we learn to use the winds of storms to enable us to soar higher.

II. PERCEPTION for the SEEING life. they shall mount up with wings as eagles;

“Wide soaring gives wide seeing.” waiting on the Lord helps us to see things differently.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

When you look down from the mountain you get a comprehensive, and all inclusive view of what is happening and how it is all going to work out.

Ex 7:9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek:

to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

Paul: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18). - This, is how the eagle sees it.

We begin to realize that the ministry of THORNS is greater than the ministry of THRONES.

III. PERSEVERANCE for the STRESSFUL life. - they shall run, and not be weary;

I Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

IV. PERSISTENCE for the STRUGGLING life. - “walk, and not faint.”

II Cor 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

In the waiting there is Power for the soaring life,

Perception for the seeing life,

Perseverance for the stressful life, and

Persistence for the struggling life.
