“It’s Time To Get Up” “Need sleep to live, some kills”

Judges 16:19 And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments,….

Mark 13:36 Lest coming quickly he find you sleeping.

Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time,

that now it is high time to awake out of sleep:

1 Thessalonians 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep,

as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

Matthew 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried,

they all slumbered and slept. (10 Virgins)

Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, ...

Jonah 1:6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise,

call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not. “It’s Time To Get Up”

Maybe sleepers sleep because they are sleepy. But still, we have to get up with the bugle call, or the alarm clock, that warns us not to be late. Get yourself up

and go to work, while you still have a job to go to.

Maybe the sleeper is sick. In that case, Jesus says, ‘ARISE, take up your bed and walk’. At the word of Jesus, that which was broken, is mended.

Maybe they are just sick of life, sick of sin, sick of self. Jesus says, your sins are forgiven you “arise” and walk

There is still another, yet worse, kind of sleep. It is to be ‘dead in trespasses and sins’. Jesus said, ‘Behold,

I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me’ (Rev. 3:20).

Jonah 1:6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? Arise,

call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not. “It’s Time To Get Up”

Who was Jonah?

Jonah was a true prophet of God

Jonah heard the voice of God

Jonah knew the will of God

Jonah knew the presence of God

Jonah fled from the presence of God because he didn't want to obey God's voice. Whenever you get in the manifest presence of God, He deals with everything in your heart. Another reason was, because he didn't want to carry the gospel of judgement, to Nineveh.

He was like a lot of our smooth talking prophets today: he only wanted to speak, what made him popular with the people, and to bring in the money.

Jonah fled to Tarshish (the region of the stone).

He went down to Joppa, which means beautiful.

(Beautiful but dead). You may do something good,

but if it's not what God said, it's disobedience.

He found the ship going to Tarshish and he “paid”

the fare thereof. Disobedience cost, sin costs, sin will cost you plenty. He went down into it, to get away from the presence of the Lord. This is the hardening of his heart, “rebellion”. But the “Lord” sent out a great wind in to the sea and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was likely to be broken.

I want to say something right here: It was God, that sent the Storm after Jonah. I know this doesn’t fit with the message of some that insinuates that God never gets angry and God never judges, and would never allow you to fall down, or never allow you to get hurt, like the message last week, allow you to get viper bit.

But the God of the Bible, “will” send a Storm into your life, and he may just allow you to lose everything that you put your trust and confidence in, to bring you back to him. There may be somebody here right now, that knows, you were rebellious and stubborn and hateful angry resentful, but instead of God cutting

you off, he sent storms into your life, to wake you up and turn you around. If you know that God was merciful to you, and turned you around, you need to lift your hands right now and give him some praise and thank him that he didn't let you drown, and

thank him, that he didn't let you destroy yourself.

Vs 5 says, Jonah was gone down, into the sides of the ship and he lay, and was fast asleep.

The Mariners, the sailors, the passengers, we're all terrified, they were afraid for their lives, they began to cry out to their gods, and they began to throw things overboard. This means the things that they held onto, and trusted in, and depended on, they just threw them in the trash. They were in total desperation. Suddenly they figured out, that somebody was not on deck.
