Summary: The Bible shows us that Satan battles, hinders and oppresses not only in the spiritual realm but also the realm of man. Let’s look at several examples of Satan’s powers and his battles.

1. Power of Death

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he (Christ) also took part of the same (became flesh); that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. Hebrews 2:14

2. Rulers of Darkness

Put on the whole armor of God, so that you can stand against the wiles of the devil, because we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:11-12

3. Power and Glory of the Kingdoms of the Earth

Satan tempted Jesus in Matthew 4 and Luke 4.

Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

The devil said to Jesus, “I will give you all this power and the glory of them; BECAUSE THAT IS DELIVERED TO ME; AND TO WHOMEVER I WILL I GIVE IT." Luke 4:5-6

Note: We don't know if this is true since Satan is speaking, and we know that he is a liar.

4. The Dragon and the Woman

Then the dragon became furious with the woman (Israel) and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 12:17

Read more about the woman and the dragon in Revelation 12.

5. David

Satan stood up against Israel and provoked David to number (“to count” HCSB) Israel. 1 Chronicles 21:1

And David took a census to determine the size or strength of his army.

6. Joshua the High Priest

He (an angel) showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

The Lord (to Satan): The Lord rebuke you, O Satan; even the Lord that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. Zechariah 3:1-2

7. Judas

After the supper (in Bethany) ended, the devil put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, to betray Jesus. John 13:2 and Luke 22:3

After the sop (at the Last Supper) Satan entered into Judas. John 13:27

8. Ananias

Peter asked Ananias, “Why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost and to keep back part of the price of the land? Acts 5:3

9. Paul

a. We would have come to you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us. 1 Thessalonians 2:18

b. In Caesarea, Paul testified to King Agrippa about his experience on the road to Damascus.

Paul said he saw a light, brighter than the sun, and he heard a voice.

The voice: ...I am Jesus, whom you persecute...

I now send you to the Gentiles to open their eyes

and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God,

that they may receive forgiveness of sins

and inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts 26:13-18 (summarized)

10. Elymas the Sorcerer

When the deputy of Paphos called for Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear the word of God, Elymas the sorcerer (who was with the deputy) withstood them, trying to turn the deputy away from the faith.

Paul, filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on Elymas the sorcerer and said to him, “O full of all subtilty and all mischief, you child of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?” Acts 13:6-10 (summarized)

11. Spirit of Infirmity

Jesus saw a woman who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years. She was bowed together and couldn’t lift up herself. He healed her.

The ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the sabbath day,

Jesus: Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? Luke 13:11-16

12. Oppressed by Satan

Peter spoke to Cornelius and his family and friends about how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Acts 10:38

13. Messenger of Satan

Paul wrote, Lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 2 Corinthians 12:7

14. Peter

a. Jesus Called Peter Satan.

Jesus began to reveal to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, be killed and be raised again the third day.

Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
