Galatians 4:1-7 Christ's Coming

1. The Preparation Of The Place -

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

i. The Will of God in history - “When the time had been filled up…”

ii. The Wisdom of God in history - 4 God sent forth his Son

iii. The Work of God in history - 4 made of a woman, made under the law,

5 To redeem them that were under the law,

2. The Presentation Of The Person. - God sent forth his Son,

i. HE WAS BORN THE RIGHT PERSON

A Prophet - Deut 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

A Priest - Psalms 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

A King - Zech 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass.

2. BORN FOR THE RIGHT PURPOSE

5 To redeem them that were under the law,

To Provide a Saviour - Matt 1:21 she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

To Prove Scripture - Matt 1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

To Promote the Sender - Matt 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

3. BORN AT THE RIGHT PERIOD

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, exactly the right time.

Politically - Rome’s rule had united much of the world.

Culturally - Alexander the Great, and Greek culture, and language –

the language in which the New Testament would be written.

Spiritually - the Jewish people, under Roman rule, were in Jerusalem,

Prophetically - Mt 1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet,

4. BORN IN THE RIGHT PLACE

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

5. BORN IN THE RIGHT PATTERN

Isa 7:14 The Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel

3. The Proclamation Of The Purpose. -

5 To redeem them that were under the law, - Jesus came for:

i. The Redemption of Sinners - 5 To redeem them that were under the law - “to buy back” - to set free from the slave market. “redeemed”

ii. The Restoration of Sons - that we might receive the adoption of sons

God gave up His only Son so that He could adopt a multitude of sons.

Heb 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

A. Acquittal - 5 To redeem them that were under the law,

B. Adoption - 5 that we might receive the adoption of sons.

C. Affection - 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

D. Acceptance - 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son;

E. Affluence - 7 and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
