Introduction: In the 1964 Disney classic, Mary Poppins, the little girl, Jane, asks Mary Poppins “…you won’t ever leave us, will you?” Mary Poppins ignores the questions and asks about something on a different subject. The little boy, Michael, asks, “Will you stay if we promise to be good?” This time, Mary Poppins responds to that question, but doesn’t answer it when she says, “That's a piecrust promise. Easily made, easily broken.” The promises of God are solemnly made and solemnly fulfilled.

I. The Promise of Resurrection

a. After Peter’s Confession, “From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day.” Mat 16:21

b. The Angel reminded Mary: "He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come; see the place where He was lying.” Matt. 28:6

c. Raised for our benefit: “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” Rom 8:11

II. The Promise of Redemption

a. In Jesus: He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13-14 NASB)

b. Through His Blood: In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace; Eph 1:7

c. Plainly Put: “This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.” 1 John 2:25

d. The Sign of His Promise: "Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.” Acts 2:33

i. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise. Eph 1:13

III. The Promise of Return

a. Jesus’ Promise: "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:3

b. The Angel’s Reinforcement: They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven." Acts 1:11

c. Jesus Putting it Plainly:

i. "And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book." Rev 22:7

ii. "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” Rev 22:12

iii. He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming quickly." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” Rev 22:20

Invitation: Rev 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
