WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT “JESUS IS LORD” OVER MY LIFE?
Pastor Joel Bernardino – October 16, 2025
The Bible says that to be saved, we must believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that “Jesus is Lord.”
Romans 10:9 — “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
This declaration is more than just words — it’s a life-changing commitment.
When you say “Jesus is Lord,” you are saying that He has full authority, full ownership, and full control over your life.
1. BELIEVING AND CONFESSING THAT JESUS IS LORD
To say “Jesus is Lord” means:
• You believe with all your heart that He is the Son of God who died and rose again.
• You confess with your mouth that He alone is your Savior and Master.
• You depend completely on Him for your salvation — not on your good works, religion, or anything else.
True faith always leads to confession.
When Jesus becomes real in your heart, you cannot stay silent about Him — you’ll want to declare who He is and what He has done in your life.
So when you say “Jesus is Lord,” you’re not just saying a phrase —
you’re making a public declaration of faith and a personal surrender of your life to Him.
2. OBEYING AND SERVING JESUS AS LORD
But confessing Jesus as Lord is not only about words — it’s about obedience.
Matthew 7:21 — “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
Jesus is not looking for empty titles; He is looking for obedient hearts.
If He is truly Lord of your life, then He must also be Lord over your:
• Relationships
• Priorities
• Dreams
• Thoughts
• Decisions
• Finances
It means you are willing to follow His will, even when it’s hard or inconvenient.
You are loyal to Him above anyone or anything else.
You live to please Him, not yourself.
To say “Jesus is Lord” is to say,
“Lord, You lead — I’ll follow. You command — I’ll obey.”
That’s the true proof of lordship — obedience and service that flow from a heart of love.
3. MAKING THE PERSONAL DECISION
God gives us the freedom to choose whether or not we will accept Jesus as Lord.
No one can make that decision for you — it’s personal.
You can’t inherit it from your parents, your church, or your pastor.
You must personally decide, “Jesus, from this day on, You are my Lord and my Savior.”
That’s when transformation begins.
That’s when Jesus truly becomes Lord over your life — not just in words, but in reality.
