Summary: The Shepherd preserves the life of the sheep. He good Shepherd even laid down his life for the Sheep. In the presence of the shepherd ravenous wolves are kept at bay.

TEXT: Psalms 23:5 (NLT)

"You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings."

Prey and Predator

"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over" (Ps 23:5). The sheep is a favourite prey of many predators. Without the protection of the shepherd, the sheep is easy meat. There are enemies all around the disciples of Christ. Eph 6:12 tells us: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." These spiritual forces and their human agents war against obedient children of God. But the greatest enemy of all is the enemy within (self). If the enemy within is conquered, the enemy without cannot gain entrance. The Holy Spirit and the Light, Word and Fire of God (Jesus) needs to have a firm root in the heart of the sheep to guard it from evil imaginations and thoughts (2 Cor 10:4-5)

Feasting in the presence of enemies

Jesus said in Matt10:16: "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." In spite of the ravenous wolves and dogs lurking around the sheep, his table (provision) is assured. In the presence of our enemies God is able to provide for all our needs. "Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?" (Ps 78:19). God provided bread and meat for the Israelites in the wilderness supernaturally. God will furnish a table for you even in the midst of your enemies in the mighty name of Jesus. You will feast with joy in the presence of your enemies in Jesus name. The Lord will make your enemies your footstool in the mighty name of Jesus. The meek shall eat and be satisfied..." (Ps 22:26).

Protected and Preserved by Anointing

Be careful who you believe and follow. False prophets like hired shepherds will flee when the wolves come. The wolves will then devour such sheep (John 10:12). The Lord will separate you from false prophets in Jesus name. Psalms 105:15 says: "...Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm." The heads of sheep are usually anointed with medicinal oil to protect them from diseases. God anoints the head of his children to protect them from harm. The anointing of God upon the life of David protected him from his numerous enemies. As long as you believe in Jesus, you are sealed in Christ with the Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13). "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him (1 John 2:27). The anointing of God upon your life will protect and preserve you in Jesus name.

Overflowing blessings

"My cup runneth over," signifies an overflow of God's blessing in your life. We serve the God of overflow. He will flood your life and family with overflowing blessings in Jesus name. You will have more than you need in Jesus name. You will be a blessing to your family and nation in Jesus name.

PRAYER:

Father, let my table never be empty. In the presence of my enemies let me feast with joy and laughter. Anoint me afresh with the Holy Ghost and Fire in Jesus name. Let my cup of blessings overflow in Jesus name.

God bless you. Shalom.
