A Challenge To The Church

Ephesians 3:1-12

Introduction: Herein are some great insights regarding the ministry of the individual Christian and the church. Note in v.9, Paul’s words “To make plain” (bring to light, to enlighten). What Paul communicates let us comprehend.

I. Paul’s Sacred Assignment – Message

This is our assignment as well. See the word “gospel” (v.6-7). Paul didn’t ask, volunteer

or strive for it. God gave it to him (v.7). He was a prisoner in Rome but not of Rome (v.1). To whom was this assignment directed. “Gentiles” (v.1, 6). “We” (v.12). The idea throughout is the universal availability of the gospel. He has given to us (church) the sacred assignment of carrying the message of Christ to all the world.

II. Paul’s Specific Revelation – Mystery

See v.3-6, 9. Paul received his sacred assignment through a specific revelation. Note v.4

– “Insight”, v.5 – “Revealed”, v.10 – “Church”. In a recent survey seven in ten Americans say they can be religious without going to services in a community of faith. That is a radical departure from Paul’s vision of the church. God has given to us the final, full, special revelation. The mystery (unveiled secret) is in his book we call the Bible!

III. Paul’s Sovereign Grace – Motive

Look at v.2, 7, 8. God gave Paul the grace to carry out his ministry. Note what God’s

grace did in Paul’s life (v.8). It humbled him. See Rom. 7:18; I Cor. 15:10; Phil. 3:13;

I Tim. 1:15.

IV. Paul’s Special Power – Might

See v.7. We need power.
