The first point of our sermon today is an undeniable truth: God cannot deny His love. This is a profound and essential aspect of our faith, and it is a truth that is deeply embedded in the very nature of God.
The Bible tells us in 1 John 4:8, "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." This verse reveals to us that love is not just an attribute of God; it is His very essence. It is impossible for God to deny His love because to do so would be to deny Himself, and God is unchanging and steadfast.
The nature of God's love: His love is not like human love, which can be fickle, conditional, and often self-serving. God's love is unconditional, unchanging, and sacrificial. It is a love that is willing to give everything, even His only Son, for the sake of those He loves. This is the love that we see in John 3:16, a love that is so profound and deep that it is beyond our human comprehension.
It’s unending: There is no beginning or end to His love. It is not dependent on our actions or our worthiness. Even when we are unfaithful, God remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13). His love for us is not based on who we are, but on who He is. He is love, and He cannot deny His love.
It’s an action: It is demonstrated in the way He cares for us, provides for us, and guides us. It is shown in His patience, His forgiveness, and His mercy. It is evident in His desire for us to know Him and to have a relationship with Him. God's love is active and tangible, and it is a love that is constantly at work in our lives.
It’s inclusive: It is not limited to a select few, but it is extended to all people. The Bible tells us in Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." This verse shows us that God's love is not just for the righteous or the deserving, but it is for everyone, even those who have turned their backs on Him. His love is a love that seeks out the lost, the broken, and the hurting, and it is a love that is willing to go to great lengths to bring them back to Him.
God cannot deny His love: His love is a fundamental part of who He is. It is a love that is willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of those He loves. This is the love that we are called to receive, to believe in, and to live out in our own lives.
