He’s On the Move

In the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe four children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy find themselves in a world where animals talk and a wicked witch, Jadis has had the whole land under her spell so that for 100 years it has been winter but never Christmas. As I’ve mentioned before, Lucy is the first of the four children to arrive in Narnia but one day while trying to keep ahead of a group touring the country home they all get into the wardrobe in order to keep out of sight. As they bump into one another they suddenly feel to cold air and the prickly pine needles and to the surprise of Peter and Susan, who believe that Lucy has been lying or is losing her mind, they all in up in Narnia. When they meet Mr. Beaver he tells them, “they say Aslan is on the move - perhaps has already landed.” The children have never heard of Aslan. Later at Mr. and Mrs. Beavers house Susan asks, “Who is Aslan?” Mr. Beaver responds, “Why don’t you know.” He’s the King. He’s the Lord of the whole wood, but not often here you understand. Never in my time or my father’s time. But the word has reached us that he has come back. He is in Narnia at this moment.”

The inhabitants of Narnia who haven’t gone over to the White Witch are excited, because Aslan is on the move.

Just as Mr. Beaver was pleased to tell the children about Aslan, this morning I am excited to tell you about about the one whose birth we will celebrate in One week.

1. He Is and Always Has Been.

John 1:1-5 (GW)

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He was already with God in the beginning.

[3] Everything came into existence through him. Not one thing that exists was made without him.

[4] He was the source of life, and that life was the light for humanity.

[5] The light shines in the dark, and the dark has never extinguished it.

2. He is the Son of God Almighty

Luke 1:31-33 (NIV)

You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. [32] He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, [33] and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

3. He is the promised Savior

Luke 2:10-11 (NIV)

But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. [11] Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

In Narnia one of the children, Edmund, becomes a traitor by betraying his siblings to the White Witch, all for another taste of Turkish Delight, a candy, and because of her promise to make him King over his brother and sisters - selfishness.

After Aslan’s forces free Edmund from the White Witch she reminds Aslan that a traitor must pay with his life by being sacrificed on the Stone Table. Instead of turning Edmond over to Jadis Aslan offers himself in Edmund’s place.

I hope you understand the enormity of Christ sacrifice for you this morning. The ever living one of Heaven entered time and space and was laid in a manger in Bethlehem; He grew in wisdom and stature, was tempted as all of us but sinned not, he proclaimed, “not my will but Yours be done,” to His heavenly Father and went to the cross where he died as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind for all time.

Peter in his first epistle reminds us that,

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)

And Paul tell the Corinthians,

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

2 Cor. 5:21 (NLT)

4. He is With Us

Matthew 1:23 (NIV)

"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us."
