The questioning of those skeptical Pharisees constrained our Lord to say many things about himself which otherwise might have been left unspoken. Those unbelieving Jews meant it to damage his character, but God meant it for further revelation of his glorious nature. He tells them seven things about himself.
I. He was not of This World
1. John 8:23
2. His wisdom, character and motives could not be the product of this world.
3. His mission: given from above.
4. 1 John 2:15
II. He is the Light of the World
1. John 8:12
2. John 8:11, be done with sin or darkness, if you follow Jesus
3. John 3:19, Light of the world is not in science, art or philosophy, but in Christ.
III. The Father was With Him
1. John 8:16
2. Matthew 28:28, gives Christians courage to realize this.
3. Matthew 27:46, only one time He was alone.
4. John 4:32-34, meat to eat you know not of.
IV. He Spoke of the Things which He had Learned from the Father
1. John 8:26-28
2. Deuteronomy 18:18, promised.
3. John 15:15, made known, just before His death.
4. To reject is to reject the words of the Father, John 10:30.
V. He Always Pleased the Father
1. John 8:29
2. Matthew 3:17, the Father testifies of this too.
VI. To Know Him is to Know the Father
1. John 8:19
2. John 1:18, God’s voice and compassion of invisible.
3. God found audible and visible expression in the teaching and sufferings of Jesus His Son.
VII. To Disbelieve Him is the Die in Sin
1. John 8:24
2. Sin of unbelief the sin that condemns.
3. John 3:18, 36, to believe Him not is to live in darkness and die in sin.
4. A barrier to Heaven is unbelief, John 12:48.
