Preach Christmas week

Sermons

Summary: This message will challenge the Christian to fully surrender to the Holy Spirit, relying on Him for power in our daily living.

So far we have talked in this series about:

Unhindered Power

Unhindered Kingdom

Unhindered Forgiveness

Today we will talk about:

Unhindered Power

A. The Holy Spirit gives us unhindered power.

We love power. (I had a power leaf blower on the platform.).

Power tools are only powerful when they are connected to some type of power source like a battery.

But we often look to the wrong sources for power.

• Worldly wisdom

• Popular opinion

• Education

• Work

• Wealth

Why do so many Christians struggle, give up, walk away?

They are not plugging into the power source of the Holy Spirit.

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)

I love the lyrics of this worship song:

The same power that rose Jesus from the grave

The same power that commands the dead to wake

Lives in us, lives in us

The same power that moves mountains when He speaks

The same power that can calm a raging sea

Lives in us, lives in us

B. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to be more like Jesus.

A frustrated world that isn’t changing to be more like Jesus, changes who Jesus is.

The Holy Spirit helps us to develop the Fruit of the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit helps us to love like Jesus, live like Jesus. Forgive like Jesus.

C. The Holy Spirit gives us power to pray.

Cannot be a powerful Christian without a powerful prayer life.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)

I remember the testimony of a Christian whose child drown in a pool. He talked about how he cried, yelled, and most of all prayed. He prayed and prayed. When he had no more words to pray he the Holy Spirit took over.

D. The Holy Spirit gives us power live victoriously.

He convicts us when we are wrong. Conviction is a blessing to the Christian.

When we ignore the Holy Spirit, we grieve Him.

He gives us the power to say no.

Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

The Holy Spirit gives us:

Victory over sin and death.

Victory over all the trials of this world.

E. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to witness.

I witnessed a car chase from a Dollar General robbery. I told the story over and over. to anyone who would listen.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

When we are so thrilled about Jesus and surrendered to the Holy Spirit, we can’t NOT witness.

When my first child was born. I was in the hospital elevator and was excitedly telling everyone that I was a new dad. Even if they didn't want to hear, i told them.

God does miracles in our lives, how can we not live unhindered lives of power testifying to the world?
