Day Five - Anointed and Betrayed

Two days before the Passover feast, Jesus said to his disciples,

“I will be betrayed to be crucified.”

Caiaphas and the religious leaders said, “We can’t kill him on the feast day,

because there will be an uproar among the people.”

In Bethany, a supper was prepared for Jesus in the house of Simon the leper.

Martha served, and Lazarus sat at the table with Jesus.

Then Mary took a pound of very expensive oil and anointed Jesus’ feet

and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance.

Judas asked, “Why wasn’t this fragrant oil sold for a large amount of money,

which could be given to the poor?”

Not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief.

He carried the money box, and he took what was put in it.

But Jesus said, “Leave her alone.

She has kept this oil for the day of My burial.

You will always have the poor with you, but you won’t always have Me.

She will always be remembered for what she has done.”

A great many of the Jews knew that Jesus was there, and they came to see Him,

but they also wanted to see Lazarus. The chief priests also plotted to kill Lazarus,

Why? Many of the Jews believed in Jesus, because Lazarus was raised from the dead.

Judas went to the chief priests to betray Jesus.

When they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money.

Judas watched for an opportunity betray Jesus.

Day Six – The Lord’s Supper

The next evening,

Preparing for Passover supper - Luke 22:7-8, Mark 14:12-17

— Jesus sent Peter and John to prepare the passover in a guest-chamber, a large upper room. In the evening he came with the twelve. This was the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

The Lord’s Supper

— Jesus knew the time had come. John 13:1

— “I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” Luke 22:14-16

— Jesus revealed that he would be betrayed. Matthew 26:21-25

— During the traditional Passover meal. Jesus introduced communion. Matthew 26:26-29

Jesus blessed and broke the bread, “Eat; this is my body which is given for you. (Do this in remembrance of me. Luke 22:19) Taking the cup of wine, “Drink all of it. This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Washed Feet - John 13:2-20

— As an example, Jesus washed their feet. “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; you should wash one another's feet.”

— Peter protested.

— Jesus said, “Not all of you are clean.”

— Jesus said, “I know whom I have chosen, but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.” Psalm 41:9

Judas Left - John 13:21-30

— Jesus said to Judas, “What you do, do it quickly.

— Judas left immediately in the night.

Strife - Luke 22:24-30

—There was strife among the disciples, which of them would be greatest.

— Jesus told them “I am among you as he who serves...You will eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

Jesus gave them a A New Commandment - John 13:31-35

— Jesus said “Love one another; as I have loved you. By this, men will know you’re my disciples.”

They sang a hymn and went out to the mount of Olives.
