Idolatry is a serious offense against God, and one of the most subtle forms of idolatry is prioritizing family over our relationship with Him. Today, we'll explore the curse of worshipping idols over family and the importance of putting God first.

Exodus 20:3-5 warns us, "You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God."

In Matthew 10:37-39, Jesus says, "Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me."

The Curse:

1. Disobedience: Prioritizing family over God leads to disobedience to His commands and a lack of surrender to His will.

2. Spiritual Blindness: Idolizing family can blind us to our spiritual needs and the truth of God's Word.

3. Division: Placing family above God can create division within the family itself and with other believers.

4. Lack of Fruitfulness: Idolatry hinders our fruitfulness in serving God and impacting the world for Christ.

5. Judgment: The Bible warns of judgment for those who prioritize idols, including family, over God.

Breaking the Curse:

1. Repentance: Recognize and confess the idolatry of prioritizing family over God.

2. Surrender: Yield your family and relationships to God, trusting in His sovereignty and goodness.

3. Obedience: Prioritize your relationship with God, following His commands and guidance.

4. Spiritual Renewal: Seek spiritual growth and revival, deepening your connection with God.

5. Fruitfulness: Serve God with passion and purpose, impacting your family and the world around you.

Let us examine our hearts and lives, repenting of any idolatry that has taken precedence over our relationship with God. May we prioritize our walk with Him, trusting in His perfect plan and provision for our families and lives.
