Let Us Go to Bethlehem and Find the Christ of Christmas

Lk 2:1-14

More than 2000 years ago there was a Man born contrary to the laws of life.

This Man lived in poverty and was reared in obscurity....

Only once did He cross the boundary of the country in which He lived, that was during His exile in childhood....

In infancy He startled a king;

in childhood He puzzled the doctors;

in manhood He ruled the course of Nature, walked upon the billows as if on pavement, and hushed the sea to sleep.....

He never wrote a book, and yet all of the libraries of the country could not hold the books that have been written about Him...

He never wrote a song, and yet He has furnished the theme for more songs than all the song writers combined.....

He never founded a college, but all the schools put together cannot boast of having as many students..

The names of the past proved statesmen of Greece and Rome have come and gone.

The names of the past scientists philosophers and theologians have come and gone; but the name of this Man abounds more and more.....

Though time has spread many years between the people of this generation and the scene of His crucifixion, yet He still lives.

Herod could not destroy Him, and the grave could not hold Him...

he stands forth upon the highest pinnacle of Heavenly glory, proclaimed of God, acknowledged by angels, adored by saints, and feared by devils, as the living, personal Christ, our Lord, our Savior and our God.

Luke 2:1-14 NIV

1. In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.

2. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)

3. And everyone went to his own town to register.

4. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

5. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

6. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,

7. and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

8. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.

9. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

10. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

11. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

12. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."

13. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

Finding the Christ of Christmas

Everyone is busily preparing for the holiday season.

Yet, in the midst of this preparation, millions of people miss the real meaning of Christmas.

In the midst of the Christmas rush, Christ is oftentimes left out as we forget that it is His birthday we are celebrating. The precise meaning of that first Christmas is clear: God came to earth in human form.

Finding Christ is finding a Great Gift!

1. A gift that is appropriate for a small child, or a teenager, or an adult, or a senior adult. Boy or girl, man or woman, it makes no difference.

2. The gift we all need, the most valuable gift of all, is that baby in the manger. The one that this whole season is about. On Christmas, we celebrate the fact that God gave us the gift of His own Son, Jesus Christ, so that through faith in Him we could be forgiven of our sins and have eternal life.

a) Because He is what we really need most.

b) Because He is better than we all really deserve

c) The Gift Of God Is Unending In Its Availability.

d) The Gift Of God Is Unparalleled In Its Power To Change Lives.

e) This gift has changed our eternal destiny

f) This gift has given us a living hope.

g) This gift has given us everlasting peace

h) This gift has given us an unspeakable joy

i) This gift has given us never-ending love.
