JESUS OUR HEALER: RESTORATION FOR BODY, SOUL, AND SPIRIT

INTRODUCTION — THE HEALER WHO TOUCHES OUR LIVES

Church, long before Jesus began His ministry, the world was full of sickness, suffering, and sorrow. People struggled with pain that no doctor could cure and burdens that no human hand could lift.

Into that brokenness stepped Jesus.

Into our weariness, into our disease, into our fear… stepped the Healer.

Healing is not merely physical.

Healing is holistic—body, mind, soul, and spirit.

Jesus heals what is broken, restores what is lost, and sets the captive free.

Today we will see that Jesus is the Healer who:

Feels our pain

Holds authority over sickness and sin

Calls us to faith

THE SUFFERING SERVANT AND HEALER

Isaiah 53:4–5 (NLT): “Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down.

And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!

But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins.

He was beaten so we could be whole.

He was whipped so we could be healed.”

Notice the sequence:

Weaknesses and sorrows

Pierced and crushed

Healing and wholeness

Even before He walked the earth, the Messiah was a healer of humanity—body and soul.

POINT 1 — THE HEALER WHO FEELS OUR PAIN

Jesus is not distant or indifferent.

He identifies with our suffering.

Matthew 8:16–17 (NLT): “When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him. He drove out the spirits with a word, and he healed all the sick. This fulfilled the word of the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took our illnesses and carried our diseases.’”

Carried — Greek: ß???? (ballo) — to lift, to bear, to take on.

Jesus does not ignore our pain.

He absorbs our suffering, even the weight we do not recognize.

Illustration — The Soldier and the Medal

A soldier carries a medal he did not earn—he bore wounds to earn it.

Jesus carries our suffering so we do not have to remain enslaved by it.

R.T. Kendall: “Jesus took our sickness, and in His death, He bore the punishment for our sin and suffering.”

He enters our pain so that we might enter His peace. He feels, He touches, He heals.

POINT 2 — THE HEALER WHO HAS AUTHORITY

Jesus does not merely empathize.

He has authority over sickness, sin, and death.

Mark 1:40–42 (NLT): “A man with leprosy came to Jesus and begged him on his knees, ‘If you are willing, you can make me clean.’

Jesus was filled with compassion. He reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’

Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed.”

Greek: ???µa? (iaomai) — to heal completely.

Healing is not random—it is divine authority at work.

Jesus’ touch demonstrates that He is Messiah, Lord, and God incarnate.

Psalm 103:2–4 (NLT): “Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me.

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.”

Church, healing and forgiveness are inseparable.

Jesus’ authority restores body and soul.

Bring your suffering to Jesus. He has power over disease, addiction, fear, and sin.

Healing begins with His authority—trusting Him, not our own strategies.

POINT 3 — THE HEALER WHO CALLS US TO FAITH

Faith is the key that unlocks the miracle of God’s healing.

James 5:14–16 (NLT): “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.”

Prayer in faith: Greek p?st?? (pistis) — trust, reliance, confidence.

Healing is never automatic, but it is always available through faith.

Illustration — The Stiff-Handed Girl

A young girl had a paralyzed hand. Her parents took her to Jesus. She reached out in faith. He touched her, and the hand was restored. Faith did not create the miracle—Jesus did—but faith opened the way.

John Piper: “God heals because of His mercy and glory, not because we deserve it or command it.”

Faith is not bargaining with God. Faith is standing in His power, trusting His will, and receiving His touch.

ILLUSTRATION — THE BROKEN HEALING STONE

Imagine a shattered stone, once part of a building.

No human hands can restore it.

Yet a master sculptor sees its potential. He molds, fills, and restores it.

So Jesus sees broken lives—body, soul, spirit—and restores them completely.

Healing is both physical and spiritual.

Without salvation, physical healing is temporary.

With Jesus, healing is eternal.

THE GOSPEL — THE ULTIMATE HEALING:

Jesus’ death and resurrection are the greatest healing of all:
