Summary: A look at 3 of the leaders mentioned - Zerubbabel, Nehemiah and Mordecai.

INTRODUCTION

Leaders are important in every area of life. Winston Churchill was one of the great leaders of the 20th Century. David Ben Gurion was another. Leaders are particularly important in the work of God. We are going to look at 3 leaders mentioned in Ezra 2:2 -

1. A GOVERNOR - ZERUBBABEL

Haggai 2:21 "Zerubbabel, governor of Judah..."

This is one of the titles given to the Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 2:6 "And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel."

(a) Christ governs with faithfulness.

(b) Christ governs with tenderness.

2. A BUILDER - NEHEMIAH

Nehemiah 6:1 "I had builded the wall..."

We are reminded of a greater builder than Nehemiah - Jesus Christ.

(a) He built the cosmos. John 1:3 "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."

(b) He is building a city. Hebrews 11:10 "a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God."

(c) He will build His church. Matthew 16:18 "I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

3. A CARER - MORDECAI

Esther 2:7 "he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter."

Again, we are reminded of Christ. 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."

No one ever cared for me like Jesus;

There’s no other friend so kind as He.

No one else could take the sin and darkness from me;

O how much He cared for me.
