Summary: Going Home
Acts 7:51 - 60 Going Home
1. The Confrontation - They Have Rejected -
The Spirit of God - 51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
The Son of God - 52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
The Sovereignty of God - 53 who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
2. The Condemnation -
The Anxiety - 54 When they heard these things,
The Anguish - they were cut to the heart,
The Anger - and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
3. The Consolation -
His Fullness - 55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost
His Focus - looked up stedfastly into heaven,
His Fascination - and saw the glory of God,
His Favour - and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
His Fearlessness - 56 and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened,
and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
Psalm 110:1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Psalm 68:1 Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. 2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
Isaiah 3:13 The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.
4. The Consternation -
It was Defensive - Audible - 57 Then they cried out with a loud voice,
It was Determined - Purposeful - and stopped their ears,
It was Deliberate - Universal - and ran upon him with one accord,
It was Defiant - Forceful - 58 and cast him out of the city,
It was Deadly - Fatal - and stoned him:
It was Defeated - Futile - and the witnesses laid down their clothes
at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul. (Later Paul)
5. The Commendation -
Of the Man - 59 And they stoned Stephen,
Of the Meekness - calling upon God,
Of the Majesty - and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
Of the Merit - 60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice,
Of the Message - Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.
Of the Mastery - And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
Life's Race well Run - 2 Timothy 4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
Life's Work well Done - 7 I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Life's Crown well Won - 8 henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
